i heard Canada is nice this time of year

EDIT: or not

"College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year."

take action, and you might help stop it.

(By this statemnet, i dont mean vote kerry. He's promised to "help israel in all ways possible" and if you have any sense, you know thats a horrible idea that will only lead to more war.)

Bush is the greatest President this nation has seen in quite some time :) I have no problem with a draft, we should ALL be proud to serve our country.

Oh no, I have no problem with a draft for the right reasons. This was a stupid war to get into in the first place, and should have not gotten this far.

Do I sense a bit of sarcasm nathan?

Everyone thanks the war is bad by what the media presents to them. Its funny how easily the media can hand out its own agenda.

Greg , I think you're still young enough to enlist. I'd go to Afghanistan but no way in hell I'd go to Iraq. However, they'd be getting pretty desparate if they got around to drafting 43 year olds. Us grey beards don't succumb to basic training brainwashing very well. The military likes 'em young and impressionable. When they teach an 18 yr old to scream "KILL!!!!" they believe. The more experienced guys know it's BS.

Speaking of 43 yr olds a neighbor of mine is a full time mechanic in a Guard unit but had special forces training in his early 20's. He's the same age as me and got called up, handed a rifle and assigned to an infantry unit. Perhaps the Army is getting desparate.

They called in the entire unit I assume. Not singling him out for his past training?

I don't think the draft will happen anytime soon. Baby boomers vote. And they remember Vietnam and don't want their children going through it. The draft topic is often in front of Congress in one form or another; there's nothing special about this bill IMO that will push it through. I was 18 when the 1st Gulf war started and the draft was talked about daily in the dorms. And there were draft bills in Congress then too.

No you do not, and write this one down; it might be the ONLY post I ever make in a political thread that isn't tinged with sarcasm :)

Wow, I never thought I'd see more than one person who isn't the media's b1tch. Well done to those of you who are able to think on your own and decide on what you think is right. Doesn't mean I'd WANT to go, but if the draft happens, I'll be enlisting pretty quickly. God knows I'd want people to help me if the roles were reversed.

What you dont agree? Economy was up, the middle and lower class were happier, our international relationships were a whole lot better. This Iraqi war is too much like the Vietnam war in that it divides the country into two conflicting thoughts. WW2, the country was united because it was a neccecary war, if we didnt go in we'd probably be speaking german right now. Not to mention if I was alive, id probably be some slave as the fact that im not white with blue eyes and blond hair. This war is the same as the vietnam war except we arent getting owned. We went into that war for a regime change just like this one. No other reason. So tell me, why is bush better then clinton? What has he done for America that has made us a better country? Because your laughing at my opinions, and all youve said is Bush is a great president. As far as I can tell, both leaders have also lied their asses off. Im just very curious as to why you think Clinton is a bad president?

There's a reason there were no wars when he was President.

And we're suffering for it now.

Of course, the choice between a good hummer and dealing with foreign policy CAN be a tough decision. :rolleyes

The draft is only cool until your number gets called. Then reality hits.

Aghhhh, this thing is a damn near unendable debate. I think ill just stop. Its not like me, a young and not very political kid is going to convince you of anything, nor am I going to be convinced to like bush without something new and profound. Besides, I dont want to get too far on the bad side of the CEO of my favorite forum. I just get a little riled up when someone straight up laughs at my opinion, no matter how much you may disagree.

Bush is the greatest president of all time, if he thinks that a draft is necessary than i trust his judgement. I personally have no problem with a draft because i was going to join anyway. Our contry is in need of men to fight and preserve the freedom that we all enjoy, don't run to canada, if you do you're a *****

i'll just say this cause i dont want to get into a big politcal discussion.....why would you trust something about the government from a site called congress.org......(dot) org isnt the same as (dot)gov.....

ok, 1 more thing. i would serve my country and die for it if need be. however, saying it a doing are two different things. i really dont htink i would ahve the balls to go out and actually fight. i would, but i'd probably freeze up after shooting someone. then again, i could just be like everyone else and protest the fighting. thats the smart thing to do, call people doing what their country asked them to do murderers and such. its one thing to protest a war you dont agree with or believe in, but its another to actually be the one doing the fighting....

I'd go, issue me my Saw', a parachute, some boots, and some ammo and I'm off.

I'd rather join the paratroops, at least they wanna volunteer to die. I'm not gonna die in some foxhole cause some moron nitwit draft monkey cracks on me.
