It's a shock to the clutch but it's comparable to a drop clutch launch. That is unless you ride the breaks too hard then the wound up flywheel cannot overcome the breaks and the engine tumbles down the RPM slowly while no tire even slips. That is when you stuff gets hurt more. Drop the clutch at a high enough RPM or don't ride the breaks too hard... I like to put the breaks on lightly to start easily and apply them harder if the car starts to drive off from me.
