So Im new to this forum and just wanted to test the waters on some build ideas seeing as how im just getting back into the game. So I have always wanted to build a ka-t shooting for 350-400 whp, but with the the economy being what it is do you think it would be more cost affective to do a nitrous build? Im planning on getting a 91-94 s13 doesnt matter the milage seeing as im gonna rip it apart and build it from the groud up, also if anyone has done either build and wouldnt mind sharing some specs it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I ran a KA-t with nitrous. I recommend both with MSD 6A with a MSD boost retard. My motor made 416 whp with a 75 shot to spool the turbo. Another options would be a VQ swap. I replaced my KA with a VQ35DE from a 350z and I am building for boost with a 600whp goal. All options are good goals, but it all depends on your finances. You can build your motor and piece together a good turbo kit for $2500-$3000 that will make 350whp dependably. Too get that power with nitrous you would need to build the motor and spend a good chunk of change tuning the nitrous. It would need to be a wet direct port system. To do all that you would have a $1000 in just nitrous parts, another $1000 in engine building, and then tuning costs. Now if you take the first one and tune it back a little to around 250whp with a 125hp single port wet system, you can do that on a stock engine with a tune(maybe a progressive nitrous tuning box) for $1500-$2000 depending on parts sourcing.

Dont say mileage is no issue.

You may be ripping the engine apart, but things like the suspension, transmission, drive shaft, differential, axles, bushings and what have you are all wear items. Its tough to get a project finished when you are dumping all your money into keeping the thing rolling under its own power.

Not to mention the condition of the interior and exterior. Just something to think about when looking for a potential project.

but I am nitpicking because I have no other useful input other then KA-Ts are fun.

Good luck with the project.
