LMAO!ishkabibble wrote:You're putting the motor in the back?
The engine is just going to be a stock 305... I know, pretty weak. I'm doing this on my own and there is no money to dump into a better engine. It will be carbed, in part because it's easier, and in part to prove to the 240sx community that carbs (and the small block chevy engine) are a viable option for those on a budget.Eikon wrote:Are you installing the motor carborated or are you going to do all the wiring for fuel injection?
Which V8?
You're going to fab all the mounts from scratch with no templates in this time period as well?
Damn I wish I was still living in Ft. Worth.. I'd love to come watch this.
Fire me or one of the admins an email... let's talk about getting you a little more exposure!
Good luck man!
Unfortunately there isn't enough clearance under the hood so a scoop is a must. But I could use some help picking out the least silly looking one. Here are the options:1 - Butterfly Scoop2 - Hilborn Scoop Finned3 - Hilborn Scoop Flat4 - Hilborn Variant Angled (This one is cheap)5 - Shotgun Style (probably way to expensive and flashy)6 - Plain Sheet Metal Scoop (weird one from ebay)7 - Ebay Special (sticks to the hood with tape, possibly ricy)driftnslide1 wrote:Please dont put a rediculous wanna be blower scoop on it again.
There's nothing "wannabe blower" about a scoop like that. Once upon a time air filters sat on top of carbs which sat on the intake manifold which sat in the valley of the cylinder banks. So what do you do for good supply of cold air? Stick a scoop through the hood. It has nothing to do with blowers. Sure, you can stick a blower in there if you want. Doesn't mean every carb'd V8 with a scoop is a "wannabe."driftnslide1 wrote:if the picture of the motor he is using is any implication it looks like a standard edelbrock small block chevy crate motor. probably about 320hp. obviously carburated. Please dont put a rediculous wanna be blower scoop on it again.
I'll post more about it later, but at the end of Day 1 we should have the engine in and running and will have a tech day/shop day/car show at the shop. And everyone will get to see the engine start up!avendi wrote:Damnit, if I didn't work on sundays, I'd come up to Dallas to check this out.Good luck with it.

On the first car I was planning all along to go with a pro stock scoop. I think they would flow well with the lines of the 95-96 body. Before I ordered one I made a model out of cardboard to get an idea of what it would look like on the car... Lets just say Pro Stock scoops are insanely M-A-S-S-I-V-E!!! It covered most of the hood and felt like it was almost as tall as the car.Dittoz7 wrote:Pro-Stock!
Yes FI is better, but carbs are actually pretty awesome. Part of the reason for me doing this as a challenge is to prove to the community that for people on a budget a carbed small block is a great option.evildky wrote:boo....carbs.... you know if you went injected you wouldn't ahve to cut a hole in the hood, think of all the time saved sorry but FI>carbs
Oh we're definitely going to have to stop the clock once. The build is going to happen over two days 12 hours each. This is for a few reasons:1. The driveshaft - Since I don't know where exactly the engine is going to go I can't order it in advance. I tried to explain to the driveshaft shop what I was doing and get them to play along so I could call in the measurement and go pick it up. I even offered to put them in the video but they weren't interested. As far as I can see there is no way around this problem.2. Logistical problems - I am NOT a shop, I have ZERO budget, and no one is sponsoring me. I need 4 people there to work on the car, a video crew of 4-6, and 4-6 various support people. The only help I'm getting is from friends, and a local shop is donating 2 people to help work. Getting all of these people to take a day off work and give up their time is hard enough, there is no way I could get many of them to work through the night.Dattebayo wrote:We should take bets on if you can actually do it. I bet he's gonna take breaks and stop the clock, heh.
