UPDATE- Teaser Video is done: http://www.mouseattack.org/240sx2video.htm

I posted a thread in hybrids but there isn't much traffic there and I figured this would be something most nicoers would be interested in.

I’m sure some of you may have seen the V8 240SX I built last year: http://mouseattack.org/240sx.htm (the one with the silly scoop) I have decided to do another V8 swap, but this time to do it as a challenge in 24 hours. We will be making a FREE video of the swap (hopefully both entertaining and instructional), which will be released in early March. And as if doing the swap wasn’t tough enough, we added a few things to the challenge to make it even tougher:

- At the end of the 24 hours the car will be brought out as-is and will race other modded 240SXs (stock engine, sr20, and possibly an R34 skyline). There will be both a drag race and a short circuit or touge style race.- In addition to the engine swap the car will be completely transformed! This includes suspension, brakes, interior, cage, and a new paintjob.- Besides myself there will only be a crew of 3, and we will not be using a kit, templates, or any pre-made parts for the swap.

So place your bets now! It all starts this Sunday at 10am. If anyone has any questions or ideas of other interesting challenges let me know!

I saw this post on the Car Lounge yesterday. Was going to post it up here, but I had a feeling you would anyway.

Looking forward to the build!

Yes, because that kind of work is possible in 24 hours.

Are you installing the motor carborated or are you going to do all the wiring for fuel injection?

Which V8?

You're going to fab all the mounts from scratch with no templates in this time period as well?

Damn I wish I was still living in Ft. Worth.. I'd love to come watch this.

Fire me or one of the admins an email... let's talk about getting you a little more exposure!

Good luck man!

What kind of V8? I didn't read a description of one in the OP.

like i said on ls1tech, your not gonna get it done in 24 hours unless you have a TEAM of people working 24 hours and have everything needed mapped out and ready. i know exactly how much work is involved in that swap lol

Something like this is completely possible. Hell I swapped motors into a 240 and had it running in a little under 4 hours and mostly did the stuff myself. If you had all the parts ready and in some sort of order this could be done in less then 24 hours. Of course it wouldn't leave you time for beer breaks. good luck

The engine is just going to be a stock 305... I know, pretty weak. I'm doing this on my own and there is no money to dump into a better engine. It will be carbed, in part because it's easier, and in part to prove to the 240sx community that carbs (and the small block chevy engine) are a viable option for those on a budget.

All the mounts will be fabbed from scratch without templates (except whats in my head).

I'll send you an email later tonight! I could definitely use some help in the promotion department.

if the picture of the motor he is using is any implication it looks like a standard edelbrock small block chevy crate motor. probably about 320hp. obviously carburated. Please dont put a rediculous wanna be blower scoop on it again.

Unfortunately there isn't enough clearance under the hood so a scoop is a must. But I could use some help picking out the least silly looking one. Here are the options:1 - Butterfly Scoop2 - Hilborn Scoop Finned3 - Hilborn Scoop Flat4 - Hilborn Variant Angled (This one is cheap)5 - Shotgun Style (probably way to expensive and flashy)6 - Plain Sheet Metal Scoop (weird one from ebay)7 - Ebay Special (sticks to the hood with tape, possibly ricy)

Opinions any ideas I've missed? I really need to find something cheap as I'm broke. An ebay search for "hood scoop" turns up almost 1000 results but most of it is for trucks/camaros/and stick on fake scoops.

There's nothing "wannabe blower" about a scoop like that. Once upon a time air filters sat on top of carbs which sat on the intake manifold which sat in the valley of the cylinder banks. So what do you do for good supply of cold air? Stick a scoop through the hood. It has nothing to do with blowers. Sure, you can stick a blower in there if you want. Doesn't mean every carb'd V8 with a scoop is a "wannabe."

VERY interested in this "challenge". And I definitely believe its possible to have it all done in 24hrs. It'll be difficult, but assuming there aren't any major setbacks or anything it should go alright. Looking forward to it, and good luck!

I'll post more about it later, but at the end of Day 1 we should have the engine in and running and will have a tech day/shop day/car show at the shop. And everyone will get to see the engine start up!

THANK YOU!!!

On the first car I was planning all along to go with a pro stock scoop. I think they would flow well with the lines of the 95-96 body. Before I ordered one I made a model out of cardboard to get an idea of what it would look like on the car... Lets just say Pro Stock scoops are insanely M-A-S-S-I-V-E!!! It covered most of the hood and felt like it was almost as tall as the car.

Yes FI is better, but carbs are actually pretty awesome. Part of the reason for me doing this as a challenge is to prove to the community that for people on a budget a carbed small block is a great option.

I still LOVE the LS1, my daily has the LS6 and I wouldn't want anything else.

We should take bets on if you can actually do it. I bet he's gonna take breaks and stop the clock, heh.

Oh we're definitely going to have to stop the clock once. The build is going to happen over two days 12 hours each. This is for a few reasons:1. The driveshaft - Since I don't know where exactly the engine is going to go I can't order it in advance. I tried to explain to the driveshaft shop what I was doing and get them to play along so I could call in the measurement and go pick it up. I even offered to put them in the video but they weren't interested. As far as I can see there is no way around this problem.2. Logistical problems - I am NOT a shop, I have ZERO budget, and no one is sponsoring me. I need 4 people there to work on the car, a video crew of 4-6, and 4-6 various support people. The only help I'm getting is from friends, and a local shop is donating 2 people to help work. Getting all of these people to take a day off work and give up their time is hard enough, there is no way I could get many of them to work through the night.

At the end of day 1 the car will be left completely as is until the driveshaft is done. That night we're having a meet at the shop that is donating the labor (more on that later) there will be dozens of people there who will see the car start up. So it would be pretty hard to cheat even if I wanted to.

Can you set up a streaming web cam in a high corner of your shop? That'd be awesome!

Rounded cowl for the car- for sure! If they can manage to make the front end of last models Mustang look good, it can do wonders for the 240.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I agree... cowl induction hood. How long is the video going to be?
