Crappy Road Runner cable. No competition in my area so this is what ends up happening.
crap like that always drove me crazy.

I used to work for Convergys. A call centre that has a contract with Time Warner Cable. I did technical support and it sucked. So often somebody calls in, "my internet is slow." So i run a bandwidth test and their dl is like 4.5 MBPS. ****, I wish my internet was that fast back then lol. Here in Canada, you are lucky if even highspeed ADSL is in your area. You will only see cable in major urban areas. A lot of people here are still on dial-up too.

Keep in mind, we are paying for the highest level of service. Our monthly cable bill comes out to about $140... and we don't even watch any movies or sports

not bad for $19.99 a month! It's a 4-mo special rate, I guess they have enough people apply for temporary service that they made a special rate .

Of course, I have discovered the upload has an inverse throttle on the download, i.e. if you start using more than 250-300kb/s or so your download cuts cut to almost nothing. I guess that is some sort of anti-filesharing model, I discovered it while FTPing (only time I've ever had to utilize the bandwidth limiter on my FTP software ).

I have Verizon FiOS and I get max 185 kb/s.

But its fiber-optic though... and only between 4-8 pm. Main-day average is about 40 kb/s.
