Cable at any speed is good enough for general web browsing, but I leave that stuff to old grandmas. The internet, nowadays, is much more than browsing through web pages. Either way, I'm just pissed at the lack of competition in my area because Verizon won't install fios in our area any time soon. We'll be stuck with this backwater connection for years...MinisterofDOOM wrote:At work:

thats actually not that bad at all. Not that long ago cable's BENCHMARKS used to be less than that. Also, uploads will always be slower, its the way of the asymmetrical service.yelnatsch517 wrote:

Actually it could be. With such a low upload bandwidth, even small uploads reek havoc on the connection. Having VoIP, xbox, and a few computers connected could easily render the connection unusable.newfengshui wrote:upload speed isn't important, unless you share illegal files a lot.
firefox makes it so your upload speed is low, because it makes your download faster.
Thats the most retarded *** bull**** not true misguiding internet related statement I have ever heard on this forum no offense. Firefox is a BROWSER. It affects absolutely zero of your internet connection besides browsing. Firefox does not affect your upload speeds of anything other than http, of which very little happens directly inside Firefox. The test, its done via an external pluggin or applet, hence the transfer protocol for it is NOT being directly handled by Firefox. The behavior of this test is much like that of an external program, the browser's only influence is in how a firewall recognizes the system.newfengshui wrote:upload speed isn't important, unless you share illegal files a lot.

That fast download speed is typical of cable and so is the slower upload!yelnatsch517 wrote:

For me, faster uploads is very important. I do work from home and need to send files back and forth from my work systems. Nothing to do with sharing illegal files!newfengshui wrote:upload speed isn't important, unless you share illegal files a lot.
Huhn? Firefox has nothing to do with upload speeds being slow. The fast downloads but way slower uploads of cable systems is inherent in the architecture of that network. Just like in CDMA 1XRTT and 1XEVDO wireless ... (although 1XEVDO Rev. A is far more symmetrical).newfengshui wrote:firefox makes it so your upload speed is low, because it makes your download faster.
