Very true. For the most part celebrities, teen pop idols in particular, are shallow individuals. Britney Spears, for instance, everything she does is a premeditated publicity stunt. She marries a man and them annuls it hours later? The girl's so shallow she'd probably think a quarterback is refund.
But I wouldn't say all celebrities are shallow. I met Mike Farrell, the actor who played Captain Hunnicutt on MASH at a human rights convention and was blown away by how articulate his dialogue was and his enthusiasm for humanitary causes. I don't necessarily agree with his views but he's definitely not one of the run-of-the-mill dimwits populating Hollywood. I also think some actors and singers deserve more credit than their given. Take for example an actor of Tom Hanks caliber, someone doesn't build that solid and enduring a career if he was just some average dimwit. Even Madonna, for all the gimmicks and media ploys the woman uses there's a method to her madness. She knows controversy, good or bad, sells and she's managed to be a cornerstone in the music industry for over two decades because of it. Sure her music blows now but the woman has smart business sense.
There are some other brainiacs in Hollywood too. Jodie Foster was a child genius and attended Yale, as did Diane Lane, Natalie Portman's in Harvard, Matt Damon went there.
I pity those that idolized contrived teen acts and amoral athletes. So yeah anyway it wouldn't be a stretch to say most celebrities, especially athletes and teen stars, aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. Afterall they're nothing more than glorified people.
