I think it is a good Idea for someone that has just recently blown their motor. Forged internals and stroker, U can get your 8.8/1 comp. Faster spool or bigger turbo or both! I wish I had that kinda money laying around. Think about this ams's high end rebuild kit is what 2 grand. Add an aftermarket crank! It really isnt that expensive. What am I saying IT IS expensive. Gotta throw down $$$$ for some quality!

I just breezed through this but I didn't notice anyone mention the fully counterweighted crank.



If the KA has a major weakness it is it's less than ideal stock crank...

who cares about how high you can rev it...I don't think you'd have to worry about the strange vibration that happens with the stock crank at ~7200 rpms

with the crower crank it should rev faster make more power and be less prone to spinning bearings...

Yeah, I'm not all for screaming the hell out of my engine. Having an 8,000rpm redline would be nice, but there are more ways to make a lot of power.

If I can spin the thing to 7 or so I will be happy.

My other 510 has an L/Z24 bored a bit and it went pretty well.So my new car should go even better.

BTW I took a 69 510 stripped it to nothing, seam welded everything put a full cage in it, fuel cell, tilton pedal setup, AP racing 4 piston brakes in the front and wilwood two piston in the rear. the interior, bottom of the car and engine compartment, and trunk are powdercoated and the rest of the car is painted.

There are guys that spin the KA to 8500 right now...stock crank.

The new stroker kit WILL work. Fully counterbalanced cranks ARE better. It's simply a matter of cost vs benefit for me though. For $3300 I can drop in a LSx series motor. But that of course is simply my opinion.

I'll say this, if anyone buys a BC stroker kit and isn't running a standalone, then you're an idiot.

isn't it the Harmonic balancer that gives us the choice of not running a fully counterweighted crank?

Unless I'm understanding the job of the harmonic balancer completely wrong?

Well Im not sure if this is actually available, but has anyone seen this:

the price is way cheaper but Im not sure if it is really avail. I mean a fully assembled block for $2899 with a $500 core????? sounds too good to be true. I tried calling but the message said they were closed till next week for 'inventory'.....go figure. anyone know anything about this??

well if you just assemble with the stock balancer it will be all wrong, you have to balance the rotating assembly. I.E. pistons, rods, crank, balancer, flywheel, and pressure plate...

He's saying you need a standalone, or an ecu like enthalpy or bikirom, but all with testing done on the dyno. Yes you could do afr with wideband, but need to watch the curve make sure it isn't jumpy. Also what would timing curve be like?

Their all equally good. It all depends on the tune the tuner put on there, or how the tune was archived.

Best tuning IMO is the Flinstone way ...

Erm, while im not familiar with stroked motors, 30 is way to much advance IMO. 24 is really as far as you want to push a fuel injected DOHC. This might be differnt with stroked motors but i cant see it changing that much. Especialy if your boosted, with 30, you will blow your sht up quick.

rubello l28 3.1 strokers won't even run properly until about 32 degrees advanced, I was just guessing on a 2.6 KA stroker...

With a standalone timing is easy, just add or subtract.

There are quite a few standalones I'd use, AEM EMS, FAST and SDS are my top picks.

As far as timing with a stroker goes, more is definitly a good idea when you're running NA. But it's not difficult to make the max timing 30* without boost and simply retard timing based on boost pressure.

Have you ever seen the KA timing map?

That thing is ****in crazy bumped I tried to take a snapshot of it but my comp is gay :p. But at best mean torque you are at 29,27,28,31 and thats also at WOT DUH.

And thats on a SOHC map which has a lower Base timing then a DOHC.

if thats true, it would make sense on the SOHC since it has a lower compression ratio than the DOHC...

on another note, base timing doesn't really have anything to do with the argument...the timing # in the maps is what only matters...base timing is only for syncing the motor with the ecu at a certain relative RPM.

I'm pretty sure though the later model SOHC's came with the 9.5:1 compression ratio too.

Either way in this case a stand alone is a very good idea, if not a necessity.

I didn't mean it was even needed, I simply implied that spending $3k on a friggin stroker kit to drive it with a SAFCII and BTM would be a friggin waste.

A stroker kit is simply a means of adding more volume to be compressed and ignited...thats it. More cubes in a similar setup is going to make more power, that's just basic physics.

Here's a question, we're already tossing rods through the block in the number 3 cylinder. Is the longer stroke going to effect us in a negative way? Bare in mind we've had guys toss rods at 300 ft lbs of Q, thats not alot.

when you say we've had guys toss rods at 300 ft-lbs, dont you mean stock rods?? I would think that with the counterweighted crank and forged rods/pistons and fully balanced rotating assembly, tossing rods should not be an issue...right?

My point was that it's always the #3 rod. That means it's not the rod itself causing the issue but somthing we havent figured out yet. I believe Ivan was telling me about the Blocks not being drilled on center.

This is the email i got from brian just wanted to let you guys know what he said to me about the stroker kit. hope its informing to you guys.

"The 2.65L stroker kit is definitely a good choice. The added displacement will bring up the torque and Hp rating. The bottom end will be bulletproof and you can throw as much boost as you want at it. Cost on the stroker kit is $3300 and 4-5 week lead time. The kit includes 4340 billet crankshaft, 4340 billet connecting rods and custom pistons ( you spec bore and compression), 5100 series steel alloy wrist pins and rings. The kit comes fully balanced and ready to install. We do require a 50% deposit. Thank you for your interest in BC products. It has a rod to stroke ratio of 1.617. This a safe number to have. The engine will rpm as high as your valve train will let it go. The stroker is a solid choice for the ka24 power plant.

I just bought everything they had for the motor. I am building an N/A motor (I know this is the DET forum but the stroker thread was already started )It will be a bit before I get the Motor dyon'd though because I am biluding a new car from the ground up and also building a new shop (to finish the car in)
