Bought Slim Xentec HID

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hey guys i just bought a pair of Xentec slim ballast online today and im waiting for them to arrive and put them in. I was doing a little research through the forums and realized that in order to get to the headlights and the fogs, you would have to remove the wheel and the wheel lining which is only two pieces. I was undecided to add hid's because i didnt want to go through the process of removing the bumper. Ill post pics when im doing the installation.

I`m also looking for a good HID KIT , but I don`t have plans of putting hid on the foglights. I`m just wondering if our foglights are projector type also? if not, then it might be too bright for oncoming traffic.

Keep us posted on your HID mod.

The low beam headlight doesn`t need a bumper removal right? just the fog?

I put HID's on my fog lamp.Well, there is no projector but the crome finished housing acts like projector. When I light them up against wall, fog light beam has clear cut(edge) on top.So it does not really bother other drivers. I will post some pictures this weekend.

Ok guys so i got my H8 connector in the mail. After three obstacles im done. Its dark so its nice and ill post some pics but first here are the obstacles i ran for future reference. My first obstacle was the connector for the factory harness, they sent the wrong one. They sent me a connector for a 9006 bulb. My second problem was the location of the ballasts. I installed two sets (fogs and low beams) so i had to find space for them but i did. The last problem i ran into was that the slim ballasts are so thin they add the rest of the ballast in a little black box that is close to the ballast and it cerates a magnetic frequency, but i didnt know that and stuck it tightly with all the cables close to the fogs not knowing that there was a sensor on the bumper right below the fog light. Well to make the story short the sensor beeps when magnetic frequencies are close and everytime i turned my lights on and moved the car the sensor would beep. So i had to tear apart the inside of the wheel well like three times. But it came out good. Here are the pics.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

By the way these are Xentec 6000k on both the low beams and the fogs. The bulb sizes are H11 for the low beams and H8 for the fogs.

Very nice!

Does the projector with HID kit light up the highway or road signs better now?

I noticed the way the stock bulb doesn`t light up road signs at all.

Did you hook the HID with a dedicated harness going to the battery(w/ relay and fuse)

Where did you route the wires going to the driver side headlights? through

the firewall or along the front radiator area? I`ll be getting mine soon, but

I `m going for a direct battery connection. My problem is our ex35 battery is

located in the passenger side firewall and If I have to route the harness, it

will run from battery-->passenger headlights---->behind front grill----> Driver

side headlight. That`s gonna be a long wire though... Accessing the low

beam is just removing the rubber cover for the headlight

under the hood right?

Hey AWG i didnt do the relay fuse hid kit. The one i bought didnt come with that. Im not sure why they use the relay fuse but i was going through the FX's forums and they said they had problem witht the ballast not lighting up and other problems and they were solved when they took the relay fuse out and put them directly. They do light up the road way and signs better. I put the same kit on a Chevy pickup and they also didnt come with no relay fuse.

The relay/fuse are basically optional ($60 more). This gives you more protection

not to overload the OEM wire harness - Specially when yours has an HID fog

too. Imagine having both on for awhile. But yours seems to work so far.

The direct connection to the battery will saves you from having problem with

the OEM wires that also connects to some other electrical system. Sometimes

current fluctuates and causes overload and mess up the car system. Having a

direct connection to the battery is an insurance that you`ll only messing up a

5 cents fuse when overload occurs. Basically, it protects your OEM electrical

system in the future.

This is what I`ll get

I put 6000k color temp on both fog and low. It's not easy to capture the light color in pictures, but they are the same color bulbs.Actually, both are white color but low beam seems to have little more blue tint due to the projector. Also, from the first picture, you can see that more than 90% of light from fog lamp is focused on small area. So it doesn't bother oncoming traffic.I will try more pictures soon.Well, I better be a good photographer to be a good forum member...

I think i am going to put one in my EX too. I have a few questions:

1. one of you mentioned that the relay harness might not be long enough. So for those who have installed the harness can you verfity if the relay harness is long enought?

2. Will the HID kid void the warrentry?

3. The sales manager I bought my EX from he is offering to have their guys to install the kit for me. Quote from him "this way I can make sure you dont void the warrenty." I have installed HID on my xterra it is very simple so I just want to know if the sales manger just want to get my $ or something.

4. After the HID is in do you need to adjust the light (up or down), because after I installed HID into my xterra it was shoot too high. According to the user manual in order to adjust the height you need to bring it back to the dealer??

5. I am planning to change the fog light bub to some PIAA bub, will it be too hot or something to burn out the wires?

6. Most importanly the bub size on the EX 35 is H11, right? I am going to order from retro-solution.

Joser:

I had a chance to take a peek of the hood today and checked out the LOW beam headlight. There is a dust/water boot cover that you have to rotate to open and have access to the H11 bulb. The H11 wire harness is coming underneath the LOW Beam headlight housing (rear). My question is, did you have to pull the stock H11 harness off the housing and route the HID wire harness that goes to the bulb? My concern is if you leave the stock H11 harness in the housing and put the HID wires with it, there is now way it would fit inside and no way you can close the cover boot.

I`m only planning on changing the LOW beam headlight to HID. There is no way to access the low beam headlight wire harness (under the housing) if working under the hood. Did you do it by just removing the wheel well cover? All I can do is remove the dust cover. There might be another way?Looks like there is only 1 bolt holding the entire headlight assembly. The problem is, there are clips and notches holding other corners of the housing. So there`s got to be a steps for removing it. (Don`t want to break clips)

Can you give us a guide on how to remove it ?(to save us time and problem.)Pictures will be great! I`m ordering my HID today.

Last question is did you lose all your settings when you unhooked the negative battery cable? Will all the settings defaults to MPG, Fahrenheit etc.... What about the XM radio? ---I know there is a small $5 tools w/ 9volts battery that can be plugged in to the cigarette lighter to save all the settings.

BTW. this is cool! I removed the PARKING LIGHT bulb (wedge) inside the Highbeam headlight housing. If you check the high beam housing, there is a small 5w wedge bulb that is located on the upper side housing. I have these LED wedge that fits right there that I bought it a few years ago off eBay.

Looks like this:

It`s cool ! since, it does compliment the HID low beam (If you have it).

I have four ballast because i install hid in my fogs. They are all over the place. The low beams are under the support arms and the fogs are under the headlight housing.

Joser:

On the low beam headlight, will you be able to use the water/dust boot behind the Lowbeam housing after installing the HID H11 ? You know, that cap that you need to turn clockwise/counter clockwise to gain access to the bulb.

Lastly, do I really have to remove the front tire to remove the wheel well cover? should I just turn the steering wheel lock to lock?
