My rear speakers in my 94 J30 are blown. I like the stock look of the HU and it is in working order. Every shop tells me that I need to replace everything, but I want to just replace the rears. Is there any way around completely doing a new system? I have heard that 2 ohm speakers will work when connected to the amps. Or even putting in new 6x9s and installing an aftermarket amp to power them. I would go that route if someone could advise me on that method.

Thank you in advance.

I would just find a suitable pair from a wrecked Infiniti or Nissan that had the bose system in it and replace(EBAY). it is a simple process because Bose has the amps on each speaker. Do a search and i am sure this has probably been covered a million times. I have never heard of redoing the whole system because of bad speakers Someone was trying to get over on you with that one.

The only Bose 6x9s on ebay I saw were from a Caddy. Are they universal?

Since I cannot post in the WTB section yet, does anybody have a pair of working Bose 6x9s?

I got uber lucky in ebay and got two BRAND NEW bose 6x9's for 35 bux.

Poor guy spelled Infiniti "Infinity" He wasn't to tickled when I informed him.

You might ask one of the guys here parting out their J's.It has to be a 1 ohm Bose ...

those caddy speakers might work but the mounting flange will need to beModified. Way different.

Have you tried looking at salvage yards in your area? We have a place here called U Auto Pull It and you can go there and pull off anything you need off of wrecked cars.

Where there any other infiniti's or Nissan's that would have a direct fit?

I actually get angry when people do this. It's even worse now that I have an Infiniti labeled vehicle, and even worse than that when people own one and do it - I mean it's ON your vehicle, go read it. . haha

partsexpress.com they are made by a company called tang, i had my audio guy check them out and he said the specs look really good. They will be powered by a 4 channel amp and i have 8 inch componets in the front, will sound really good, once i get it done. The 6x9 subs will not be like 12 inch sound they will sound like an 8 inch sub, but they should hit low.

The Factory amp is on the speakers, you can't run anything off the bose amps!! Bose has 4 amps one per speaker, if you look at the front speakers they are only a 4 inch speaker with a huge plastic case.

oh i see...that makes a lot of sense now...so do you think if i replace my rear deck speakers with the 6x9 subs that everyones talking about and got another amp to run them could i run them off my deck(take into consideration i dont have a stock deck but stock speakers)...would i have to rewire everything or just whats going to my rear speakers???

You can not run them off your deck, the speakers need 90 watts rms power like any sub. you can run them if you buy a amp for them, it would be the same if you had a stock system and wanted to add subs, If i were you, i would change out the bose all together if you are thinking of adding subs, the front bose would sound like crap if you have 2 subs in the rear deck, all bose is is paper cones, you pay for the name. They do sound good, but aftermarket sound quality is much better in 2008 than oem in 1993.

I'd have to disagree with that somewhat. I have a single 12" in my trunk with stock mains , with a Kenwood head. The sub blends in well and the rest of the speakers with minor eq tuning sound just fine. My speakers dont rattle or pop.

And I've had cars I've bought aftermarket speakers for, speakers ranging in the $100 area for a pair, and it's sounded worse than the stock ones did. Mostly due to fitment issues with stocks having a slightly larger mounting pattern and so forth. However on the other hand I had Kicker 6.5's in my 97 Dakota with a 100x2 amp that sounded much, much better. So it's a toss up oon if it's going to make a difference all around.

And IMO, it's all in the listeners ears anyways. One person might want bass that will rattle your teeth and another might want highs that make your ears bleed.

So you actually swapped your headunit and it works (to your liking)? I'm not much of an audiophile (OEM BOSE stuff seems to be considered crap by many, but sounds alright to me) so maybe headunit replacement would be alright for me.

I'm awaiting the day the stock Clarion dies, because I've lost two in my last vehicle (97 240sx LE).

Good news

when i swapped the bose headunit for the JVC i have now, it sounded a lot better because instead of just having lows and highs like on the bose, it allowed for more mids in the sound therefore giving the sound more depth as well as clarity...

Thanks!

Yeah April of last year the stock unit finally gave up.

15 years was a good run for a radio.

I got a Kenwood KDC - MP2035 from Crutchfield with adapters for the Bose amps, and diversity antenna, and pocket since oem was double din and the new was single. With shipping and such for right around $150.

Does good enough for me and plays mp3's.

I have an old Cadence 12 and a Kenwood 200W amp in the trunk. I'll take pics to show the space it takes up.
