I have a new Nook Color and a serious need to fill it with good stuff to read. Looking for suggestions.

To give the request some scope, here are a few of my favorite books:

Frank Herbert's classic Dune saga
C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy (also known as the Ransom Trilogy or Cosmic Trilogy)
Philip d!ck's Martian Timeslip
John Steakley's Armor
H.G. Well's The War of the Worlds

I've already bought The Definitive H.P. Lovecraft and Stephen King's The Gunslinger (recommended by a friend). Now I'm looking for more ideas. Despite the above list, I'm not exclusively a sci-fi fan. I tend to have very little stomach for generic fantasy (see Richard A Knaak) and am not particularly interested in whatever is "cool" right now (vampires and Harry Potter knockoffs among other things). Just looking for a good read...preferably something I'll want to read again down the road.

Thanks, NICO!

I recommend Dan Brown. He wrote the DaVinci Code/Angels and Demons. I found his other books good vacation reading material.

How about The Eyre Affair by Japer Fforde? It's the first book in his Thursday Next series.

The Kite Runner was great.

You should check out The Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest.

They have been getting quite a bit of press lately, but that doesn't mean they are bad. I picked the first up in hardcover when it was realised some 3 or 4 years ago. I really liked them.

<Huge Dune fan.

I'm reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell right now. Very interesting book. It looks at what makes successful people successful, but in an unconventional way that most people don't think about (i.e. not just hard work and dedication). I highly recommend this, it's interesting, easy to read, and you can get through it very quickly.

Do you like Space Opera? My favorite of that genre is the Culture series by Iain M. Banks. Consider Phlebas, Matter, The Use of Weapons.
Way High-sci-fi. Filled with lots of humor(Especially from the novel's form of A.I., ship Minds) but no camp, and some pretty powerful emotional stuff.
