I'm apologizing in advance if this is a stupid question, but it kinda bugged me for the last couple of days.I visited my buddy at his shop, but unfortunately he is out of the country for a few days. I still walked around since the people know me, and between the new engines he got shipped there was a blue top SR20. Mind you, this wasn't a painted valve cover, and it was not from an S14 (one of the other guys mentioned that is was a rare one from the Nismo 270R).It was def. a S13 engine, since it wasn't a notchtop and on it said NEO VVTI.I thought the NEO technology was only in the later gens RB25's?I won't be able to get in touch with my buddy for a bit, so I was just curious where the hell the engine came out of?

I believe the Bluebird motor had the VVT Neo, I think it came in the Nissan Pulsar GTI-R, it is setup FWD or AWD not RWD but Im not 100% on this.

There are SR's with Neo VVL technology. However none were made for S13's, S14's nor S15's. What you saw was most likely a SR20VE or SR16VE out of a Sunny (Sentra), Lucino, Pulsar, Primera (G20), Bluebird (Altima), X-Trail, or Wingroad.

Bluebird is the name of the car that the engine came it. The Nissan Altima in Japan was called the Bluebird. Not the coolest name, but with an AWD and turbo its better than what we got.

That's the one. Thanks. Yeah, didn't really get a good look at it. Just sort of caught my eye cause I'd never seen it before.
