I have a redtop SR with the stock T-25 and a Greddy front mount intercooler. Everything else is pretty much stock. I have an HKS external wastegate acuator set at 1 bar of boost. Under boost today getting on it on the highway I noticed white smoke coming from the backside of my car. I pulled over and popped the hood and my dipstick was about an inch and a half out and it had pushed oil all over the manifold and the turbo causing the smoke.

Doing a search on blowby I found that I had my catch can mounted in front of the T between the valve cover and the intake. It should be on the other side of the T between the valve cover and the block. This is getting fixed right away. But my question is.....I have gotten into boost pretty hard several (many) times and have never had a problem with this before. It kinda bothers me a little. Would the catch can being mounted on the other side of the T cause this? I am about to go outside and reroute the hoses to the catch can. Any info and help would be appreciated. Thanks again,

BoZ

hey man i also had this problem before my build, it caused "2" in engine bay fire while i was drifting, very exciting nights..... i really cant confirm or anything about the routing of the catch tank, maybe this was the reasoning on my car as well... i crimped my dipstick, cuz it was very loose, and no more oil gizer, and no more fire.. but am very interested in proper answer.

My dipstick is a little loose too. I am going to crimp it down just a little to make it tighter. I am rerouting the catch can and am about to go to the store for some more hose. I will keep everyone posted.

I have the exact same problem and was wondering if there was a fix for it or if it was a terrible sign. I mean i know my rings are eventually gonna go with the amount of boost im putting through it... but ive only had the car above stock boost twice now since i bought the car.

If you're getting that kind of pressure in the crank case, it's either a bad compression ring or a bad PCV valve. We had a holed piston in an SR years ago that chugged lots of smoke out of the return hole for the catch can (which wasn't installed at the time for whatever reason I can't remember)

Anyways, do a compression test, and if you have good compression across the board, consider replacing the PCV valve.

I am going to do a compression check. As for the PCV valve I just rebuilt the motor about 1500 miles ago. New rings and bearings, new timing, water pump, oil pump, new Nissan PCV valve. It could be the PCV valve I suppose in that it could have gone bad. I am going to do a compression check first though. I know I have the old PCV valve somewhere too , I suppose I could swap it out and see. Thanks for the help,

You need to turn down the boost, 14.7 psi is really pushing the limit of the factory injectors, MAFs and turbo, you are asking for a whole in a piston.

The PCV valve only flows one way, when the manifold is in vacuum the valve is open, allowing the manifold to pull air out of the crankcase, but any time the manifold enters positive pressure, the PCV closes. If your PCV has failed, it may not be closing, allowing the manifold to force 1 bar of boost into the crankcase. Imagine, you have a really thick malt, with a straw stuck all the way to the bottom, what happens if you blow really hard into that straw, it splatters malt everywhere. If you just rebuilt the motor, I would say replace the PCV, and turn the boost down, like I said before, you are asking for a whole in a piston, if you dont have one already.

it happened to me today.I took my PCV valve off and it was bearly moving in and out,it had carbon built up in it so i cleaned it with carb cleaner and gasoline and it moves easier.
