Understandable but all the issues are taken care of. Having said that for $1400 there's no doubt I'd take the Haltech over the aem.StricNyne wrote:cas issue scared me off the the AEM
Eventually I would like to see around the 500whp mark but that will be in the future with a bigger Holset and possibly some internals and head work but I always like to have room to grow on. My pricing on all the EMS's has been way off lately.eh? wrote:How much HP are you going for?You can save a little bit more and get a ViPec v44 which is around 1200-1300usd and I've seen barely used rb25 aem ems go for about 1100.Ditch the Maf, they can be so finicky. Seems like 9 in 10 RB problems are maf related. I think I was in your same situation about 4 years ago trying to get the pfc to run with a blow through Q45 maf. Damn thing kept popping off and I said screw it, and ordered the aem. It's been a super reliable setup now with the cas issue taken care of.
If you don't mind could you throw some pictures of it up? I tried to run as little intercooler piping as possible so I put on a 90 degree pipe off the intercooler, a 90 coupler and something similar to i guess a 100 degree angle or similar that connects right to my throttle body. That's sorta why I'm having trouble with putting it in any ideal spot.300Plus wrote:been running my blow through with stock maf for 2+ years. Mine sits on the cold side piping about 11inches from the Throttle body not problems what so ever with it
For map powered cars there is a temperature correction table, you just tune that for air temp variations. That said I've never had a problem starting in the cold or extreme hot. Closed loop idle/cruise is wideband controlled, so I don't even mess around with it. There are way more high HP map cars than maf cars out there. With a tune by someone *who knows what they are doing* a maf car will not drive any better than a map car.I see ems's all the time on ebay and other forums FSHere's one Zilviahttp://zilvia.net/f/sale-items....htmlMATTs14 wrote:
And about the MAF problems, I have to agree that i do see a lot of problems with the MAF but i've always heard that the Map sensors are finicky when you start working on your starting and idle portion of the map in extreme weather conditions (Cold and hot).
Where do you guys find all these used AEM units and deals?
I'm looking for a better pic but if you see the cold side pipe in this pic , right before it enters the engine bay you can see a T-clamp that is the MAF.MATTs14 wrote:

Can the Vipec not be tuned by just any tuner?? There are a bunch of dyno shops around here, could they not do it?eh? wrote:Opinions are the problem.. not enough real facts. Not sure about the haltech, Todd should be able to answer your questions.Have you looked into the Vipec v44? Should be cheaper, no patch harness needed and has a built in map sensor.Downside is finding a US based tuner if you need one.
I talked to Sean from SCT about MAFs a few weeks ago. He said its best to run it in the cold piping to give the most accurate reading of airflow going into the engine. As long as you have a leak proof MAF, blow through is the way to go. Dont do it with the Z32 MAF. I tried that and it leaked like hell and i tried everything from rtv to epoxy and it just wouldnt seal.ralphsdiorama wrote:Do people move the MAF over to the coldside purely because of a lack of space or are there advantages to having it on the coldside?
It's doubtful most tuners have any experience with the vipec software. I think it really boils down to the tuners comfort with the tuning interface. But given enough time, any competent tuner should be able to do it. Just a matter if they want to spend time learning the sw. I would just call em and ask.MATTs14 wrote:

Also i checked out there site and the Plug In ecu's they have seem pretty nifty. Any input on these? They seem to have nearly all the same features as the v44 and go in your standard ecu casing and have an on board map sensor.

Vipec is awesome and its software is really intuitive so if you know how to tune then you know how to tune ViPecsMATTs14 wrote:I guess you're right I could call and ask but I would really like to pick something that is already popular and something most tuners know. I really want the Haltech and the ViPec looks pretty cool as well but I might just end up doing Nistune since I have a local tuner who uses it. I'm not sure, its up in the air right now
No issues when using ViPecStricNyne wrote:cas issue scared me off the the AEM
I just posted this question this morning but ill ask someone that is using it:Yellow4g63 wrote:Since people are posting pics of there blow through I'll do the same
