size of yer foot dont matter. i suggest learning how to push the top of the pedal pad with the ball of your foot. the heel can go towards the bottom of the gas. just do it whenever you drive and it'll come naturally

yeah. like, the mid-point of your sole should be on the brake, and your heel at a good position on the accel.

lol heel-toe is fun! i finally masted getting the RPM's right on every gear and at every speed.

I remember someone saying that the stock pedals are positioned somewhat like |\ for brake and gas, while japan has is |/. Im not sure about this, so dont take my word for it, but if it is you might want to think about getting some new pedals to make your life easier.

007 - I've got a similar problem.... I wear a 13 wide, and i have some difficulty doing a traditional heel toe... so what I've done to overcome it is I've gotten used to using my big toe and part of the ball of my foot for the brake, and the rest of my toes and the right side of my foot for the gas. It takes a LOT of getting used to, but I've got it down to a science after about 3 years of driving like that.

...and for those who say it's more dangerous, you just need to learn how to articulate your ankle and flex your foot - I honestly can't imagine driving another way now.

What i found to work for me was this. Go buy a gas pedal cover, just make sure it isn't plastic. when you put it on the gas pedal, have the bottom left corner skewed more towards the brake. Be careful not to have the gas pedal to low or it will not be able to be able to depress fully. Also don't put it to close to the brake for obvious reasons. Now that you have a easier accessable gas pedal, footwork is very important. I place the rear part of the ball of my foot on the brake which gives me just the right amount of heel to control thr throttle. And as stupid as this sounds, the type of shoes i'm wear also affect how well i can feel the pedals. I don't suggest wearing work boots while trying a heel toe move.

Have you ever watched best motoring videos? They don't extactly do what I call heel/toe although that is what they are doing. It seems to me more kind of left side of foot/right side of foot. You put the left half of your foot over the brake and roll the right side around the brake to contact the gas pedal. It seems to work for me. It was too difficult to try to pidgeon toe my heel over to the gas pedal. Eh, my $.02

I do the exact same thing, same size shoe too =P I split my foot almost down the middle, using my left side to press the brake, right side to do the gas.

After doing this on accident a few times, I realized this is the only way my big ole foot could do heel toe. Ive been doing this since I got my 5spd Escort about a year ago. Still getting used to it, though...

my problem has always arrisen from the fact that I walk with my toes poiunted out, so it's hard for me to rotate my foot and have the toes pointed so far inwards. A new gas pedal would probably help a lot. My .02

i dont like to do the style where u roll your ankle to the side. cause under hard braking into a turn its kinda weird.

Just try a few different ways to find what works for you. I dont think there is a 'proper' way to heel toe. It all takes some getting used to.And weldinghank, how the hell do you even fit in a S13??? I'm guessing youre at least 6' 6"

also, in japan, the pedals are on the right side of the car, which means there is no transmission/cat converter humps in the way. that seems to be my biggest problem, the hump puts my foot to high. so, like most, ive learned to do the left brake, right gas thing. and i only have a 10.5/11 shoe

so heel toe the other way around.. heel on brake, toe on gas.

Its to keep your RPMS up so that when you downshift you dont get jolted.

Big feet usually make it easier to heel-toe. For liability reasons, manufacturers have been keeping the gas and brake somewhat far apart. The ideal way to heel-toe is to put the ball of your foot on the brake with your heel planted on the ground. You'll have to experiment with where to locate your heel to see what's most comfortable. In any case, if your feet are large enough, the right side of your foot will be able to reach the gas pedal. Then all you need to do to blip the throttle is to push your right knee towards the right side of the car. Keeping your heel planted allows you to modulate the brakes better. And if you are coming off a high speed straight into a corner while trying to trailbrake into the corner, having good control over the brake is a very good thing.
