C-Kwik wrote:Big feet usually make it easier to heel-toe. For liability reasons, manufacturers have been keeping the gas and brake somewhat far apart. The ideal way to heel-toe is to put the ball of your foot on the brake with your heel planted on the ground. You'll have to experiment with where to locate your heel to see what's most comfortable. In any case, if your feet are large enough, the right side of your foot will be able to reach the gas pedal. Then all you need to do to blip the throttle is to push your right knee towards the right side of the car. Keeping your heel planted allows you to modulate the brakes better. And if you are coming off a high speed straight into a corner while trying to trailbrake into the corner, having good control over the brake is a very good thing.

yep....the advantages of having a sandwish for a foot...

i have size 11 shoes and they're pretty wide, i can heel toe w/o any problems, but it was weird at first... in race cars they have the brake pedal/gas pedal placed closer together,w/ the brake pedal higher so it will be level w/ the gas pedal when it is pressed - this is why you see some heel toe by rolling their foot instead of actually "heel toe"ing...

when I first tried heel toe, I felt like my foot was too big also, and too stiff to manuerver around, but it will all get better w/ practice, also I've found that it is easier to heel toe when I'm braking hard, under normal braking (I brake pretty earlier/lightly) it's really hard to blip porperly...

since we're on the topic of heeltoe... I just can't get used to heel toe/double clutching, was wondering if any1 actually double clutch while the heel toe in their street cars just out of habit...

...I only double clutch AND heel-toe when shifting into first and coming up to a stop sign/traffic light. And I heel-toe into the other gears... or I double clutch, shift w/out the clutch, or just use the clutch to help me brake... it all depends on my mood i guess..

do you always downshift to 1st to stop the car? I usualy just put in in second and let it ride out ther est in neutral when coming to a stop.

I just can't double clutch/heel toe fast enough, maybe I need to practice more, but I'm comfortable w/ heeltoe, so I'm probably just gonna stick to it.

Well, I don't downshift to 1st to stop the car.. I just get it into 1st so I can get up and go more quickly after I've slowed down since the 1st gear syncro is so bad.

I find I can only downshift to 1st if I'm going very slow... any faster than I would not be able to unless I double clutch.

I wear size 15 as well. In most cars. theres not enough room to rest my heel on the floor and use the top of my foot to hit the gas. I have to put my heel under the brake and tilt the top of my foot to the left over the gas. Ive done it this way since I learned to drive. And I can do what you described C-kwik, but I cant go from that position to the normal foot-on-the-gas position.

Yep size 13 here,

I use the left side for brake right side for gas too, works pretty well.
