You should have shaved off the front side markers!

Nope, it isnt a daily driver, but I still don't feel like spending $5k to put a SR20 into my car.

It would be cool, but not on my dime.

Front sidemarkers are so JDM!

i just got my jdm front sidemarkers today.

you could do an sr swap for much less then $5k, and it's not like you don't already have a lot of money into the car.

BH is right.

A GOOD swap will run you $5K. Any less than that, and you've taken shortcuts.

And say what you will about BH, he don't take shortcuts with a build (from what I've seen).

but the thing is, I wouldn't want to "settle" for a bare bones SR20.

It would a nice one with nice parts.

right off the bat, we're looking at a S14 engine, HKS manifold, Blitz single plate... that's a good chunk of change already.

How about a mostly stock RB or a mild KA-T? Better choices than the SR imo, and RB swaps are getting somewhat cheaper.

Anyways, looks great.

i disagree, i've seen a good sr swap happen for less then $5k. for example, diddersons sr was $1950 shipped to him, we pulled it apart and little and checked it over and it was in great shape. he did an fmic, bov, manual boost controller, turbo timer, boost gauge, turbo outlet, dp and catback and did lots of the little things like replacing lots of the gaskets etc. all those cost less then $3k putting him under the 5k mark. at this point i dont think i have 5k into my sr either but its hard to say since my sr is from my last car which i bought swapped, but i know i don't have $3k into swap related parts.

I've seen $1500 KA-T's too.

That doesn't mean I'd own one.

ka-t isnt a logical choice for me, but i agree, just cuz it can be done cheaply doesn't mean it should be. but i don't feel that i've cut any corners at all in my sr swap. in fact i'm willing to bet i've gone more in depth then many who just do a basic swap

I agree.

And I didn't mean a KA-T CAN (or should) be done cheaply. I meant that a $1500 KA-T is not, in my opinion, something I'd own.

I have probably $6K in mine, and we did all the fabrication in-house.

Hell, my intercooler piping ALONE would cost $1K to replicate, and most shops wouldn't do as good a job as we did.

^^^^beats me.

Anyways

KA turbo - no thanks. Dont look cool enough. Valve cover is ugly compared to SR20.

RB - I don't want an illegal engine in my car.

I'm pretty content with what I've got.Everytime I drift, people assume I have a SR and don't believe me when I tell them it's a stock KA.

I can bring one extra pair of wheels and drift the whole weekend.

I'm happy.

So let me get this straight...

You don't like the KA because of the ugly valve cover, and the RB because it's illegal? You'd be in the same boat with the SR. Just sayin

And really, you do fine with the stock KA? Everyone that has one complains it's underpowered. Like I would think it would have a hard time spinning those wide wheels too. But from the vids I've seen, you do quite well actually.

yes....

One of the main reasons for not putting a SR2o in my car is because it's illegal.

KA is underpowered, but it's enough for me to have fun and I guess enough for some people to assume I have a SR.

I dunnooooooooooooooo.........

sorry, drift newb question...tires wear quicker with an underpowered engine? i understand it would be harder to spin heavier wheels with stock power but do the tires wear faster cuz of technique or something?

tires wear faster with MORE power.

More power = more spinning = more destroying.

At a typical ASB I will kill a brand new pair of tires and then wear down another brand new pair about 60% let's say.

Other guys with SRs and stuff burn through like 6 or 8 pairs.

Looks like the Titan color, I think it's called "Canteen".

Regardless, I dig.

Powdercoat the wheels satin black and strike fear.

I'm feeling it. No front support? I don't see metal behind the "license plate square" so I would blame that for the slight bumper sag? I really like it though.
