So the BG rep came to my shop a couple weeks ago, and did a couple demos for us. This included their Intake System Cleaning product which we used on my Q. It worked very well, and I took some pictures of the before & after for you guys to see. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good focus deeper into the plenum where the most dramatic effect was, but you can see the throttle body and plate just fine.

Here are the pics:

Intake fogger? It's a good maintenance tool advocated by Q45tech. Won't replace elbow grease on the long run, but it will delay that day.

Now get a demo of the injector cleaning regime.

Not gonna bother, as I'm planning on the full DeatschWerks injector swap sometime this year when I finally get around to doing the knock sensors and harness. They also did a demo of their oil sludge cleaning system, which entailed a big jug of specialized detergent oil, and three oil filter changes over the course of about an hour. We did it on a Toyota Sienna that had MAJOR sludge and carbon buildup in the crankcase. We popped the VC off before the service, and after as well. The difference was phenomenal. The head was so coked up before the service that the oil drainback passages were caked with schmutz, and when done, the passages were nearly clear.

I like envirolution for crankcase flush. I would go with Heath's BGW (?) for injectors, or at least consider them.

Do check any injector on rail assemblies you get for leaks. Some after market guys do not. I know, the hard way.

The BG demo wasn't a flush, per se. The rep brought a 5 qt jug of oil specially formulated with an extremely heavy detergent add-pack.

The procedure is:

Warm the engine to operating temp.
Drain oil, change filter.
Add special oil, run for 20 minutes.
Change oil filter ONLY, top off oil with special oil.
Run another 20 min.
Change filter and top off again.
Run 20 more min.
Drain oil, change filter, fill with your preferred oil.

A bit more involved than a standard flush, and let me tell you - FAR more effective!

The reason I chose DW injectors is when I asked the guys at DW, they said their injectors are compatible with up to E85 fuel, and they are less than 1/2 the price of the BWD injectors. As far as I can recall, Heath tried to get that info from BW and was unsucessful. They also have the same 1-year warranty, so I figure It's worth a shot.

Well, it can be a bit iffy. If the motor is pretty gunked up, I would say bite the bullet and do two back-to-back flushes. What I mean by that is pour the flush chemical in, run it at 1200 RPM for 15 minutes, drain oil and change filter. Refill with cheapo oil, add another can of flush, and run at 1200 RPM for another 15-20 minutes. Drain oil and change filter. Remove the oil pan and clean it thoroughly, and remove the oil pickup tube and clean it thoroughly as well. Reinstall the oil pan w/ a new gasket and fill with a quality motor oil. You should have a nice, clean motor and no concerns about a clogged pickup tube causing oil starvation. Expensive, but potentially a motor-saving operation.

No, I was able to talk to an engineer at BWD, and he stated that the injectors were E85 compatible - but laughed and said that "of course the rest of the system is not"

My understanding is that you'd have to upgrade to all stainless steel fuel tubes, different tank, different pump, etc.

Here's my injector thread. g50-aftermarket-injector-alternative-t3 ... l#p3766998

I have a strong suspicion that Deatschwerks injectors are just BWD injectors that they have purchased in bulk. I could be wrong, but Deatschwerks won't say - so it's just a guess on my part.

No danger at all in fogging a high mileage car. In fact, it may well need it twice.

I guess my memory isn't what it once was. Even if the DW's are BWD's in disguise, aren't the DW's cheaper?
