Update: So the SELLER came through with the money after basically giving him constant crap. So I'm gonna leave this up as a example of trial and error on both of our parts. My part: review and KNOW what you are about to buy. His part: don't f*ck people over when selling, especially if you are sharing the same public forum.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A month ago, I bought Eibach springs from a member on NissanClub.com who I found via Craigslist. Selling for $150, bought it for $130. Before doing so, he shot a few photos of the springs which I thought were Eibach springs. We met up a day later, September 17th and he seemed like a legit guy. I ended up getting these

Image

To my knowledge I thought those were what Eibachs looked like, not to mention HELLO they CAME in the Eibach factor box!!
I got to install them merely a month later (today), and I see they are the SAME SPRINGS AS OEM. Same marking, same COLOR of the marking, same size, everything.

So I call him out on it, here's what he had to say for the most part (Me = Green, him= Grey)

Welp, there you have it folks. Basically it was "Well, sometimes you get screwed on craigslist from people who dont give a s***....and I'm one of those people." He ended up paying $80, but he's still short $50.

I wish I had the past texts from when we texted. But what does it matter? You saw what he said, he had no idea what he was selling. I dont care if these really ARE lowering springs, they are not what was advertised, Eibachs.

But heres his old thread on NissanClub.com

Stay away from this guy. He deliberately screws people over.

It makes some sense that this guy was scammed on his end. If he went to a shop and had them order the springs as well as install them, then its quite possible he never saw the Eibach's to begin with.

Even so, I have to call BS. If he thought these STOCK springs sat lower, then he's surely an idiot.

Also, very smart of him to say he didn't have a paypal account. That way he didn't reveal his email address to you.

Do you have his real name?

YES! It was Jeffrey! I knew it started with a J. He lives somewhere in South Pasadena. So now I have his name and number. Whats his email? I wonder if they can look into his account to find his email address. Not sure what it'll do.

Yea this guy was scamming me from day one, and I feel like a fool because I was looking at the springs in front of him thinking "oh wow, thats what they look like". They say lower, BS! Unless they were cut which they're not.

Are those what the altima coupe springs look like though?

Understand, I've seen eibach springs before, just not what the altima coupe springs may have looked like. But one thing I should have take note is the logo. Alot of this could have been avoided had I knew what I was looking at. Then NoLimitAltima could be making this thread :naughty:

I think I should just bite the bullet and buy new. If someones going to sell it for $150, may as well spend the extra $60. At least I know what I'm getting. I've never been scammed on craigslist. Everytime its been a great experience. Its too bad the unfortunate experience was with one of the members, i dont care if he only has 10 posts and isn't well known.

I thought there was a rule to selling on the NissanClub, like you must have X amount of posts before selling. Not that THAT would ever stop a con for conning.

with things like springs, new is your best bet.
you never know how long he had them, and how he drove during his time with the springs. springs are a wear item, and with time they begin to sag at different rates. mount 4 brand new springs on the same car and in a year's time all 4 will have different rebound/sag/spring rate. now mount unknown springs on your car, and you might have a car that will behave different on every corner - and you will essentially have a car that will handle worse than it did on stock springs.
i wouldnt ever suggest buying used springs unless they come from a close friend that you know for sure had them for less than a thousand or so miles.

regarding more info on this character, SHIFT_COUPE will PM you more info.

Its a lesson learned. Don't tear yourself up about it. Unfortunately some people have no integrity. Its a shame we have to be so skeptical these days.

What if i bought my springs when they first came out (I had a 08 A/C) and they have been sitting in the box since? would i have any problems on putting them on my 12 A/C? I don't think there should be any problems with them sitting there, but just curious cuz i didn't know that wear bit.

and for those asking why i never put them in. well i switched jobs after i got them and there's an agressive slope getting up there. Now that i have my daily driver pathfinder i'm re-interested in lowering my coupe.

i would measure them to see; otherwise springs sitting around wont have an effect you need to worry about. the springs sitting around not compressed, they certainly could have released tension at different rates and now have different rebound capacity- but highly unlikely. wrap a tape measure to get a loose number. if one is off half an inch or more = i think you know that you have a problem

my track bike is set for my weight + gear, and let me tell you = it made a world of a difference. every experienced track guy/racer will tell you, "if your suspension off by a tiny amount then your cornering is off-set by a ton."

with cars its similarly important; so thats why i really advocate to not buy or install used suspension components(springs/struts.) thats like buying used spark-plugs lol :bigthumb:

@Mike, the pic above is close. See your other thread where I posted a pic of the rear, thats exact it is an Altima Coupe rear spring. The fronts look just like OEM, but shorter. They do not have a progressive coil like the rear.

@admins: Do we really have to keep writing "the other forum"? No one ever goes there except to hunt trolls that were banned from here or to get themselves ripped off... :couch

Getting closer. Found his email addy.
[email protected]

I'm thinking about texting him again to cough up the rest of the dough. I figured I can use the fact that I know where he works and his email against him not as a threat, but in means of "hey we can settle this like men and meet face to face. I can give you your junk springs and you can reimburse me."

I'm talking with him right now. In short, He's offering to pay me an extra $20 which will make it $100 the funny thing is I told him if he can afford to pay me an extra $20 then I'm sure he can afford another 30 on top of that . Dude it's only $50 that's really not a lot these days .
stay tuned.

I'll shoot you guys a screenshot of the text If that is needed. I will at least hold no grudges against him if you can go through with this and that way I can at least say this was somewhat a decent business experience
