Ok yah I know you can change tehm to rear wheel drive but that one still looks like it is AWD to me, but what is the difference between a powerslide and a drift?
im no expert, and either way your just splitting hairs but a powerslide and drift differ on when the car starts to slide (going into the turn vs coming out of it) and counter steering normally isnt required in a powerslide

Makes sense. But unlike earlier posts, I wouldn't say powersliding isn't drifting, or that you can't drift an AWD, but let's just say it isn't done in professional drifting. You're still putting the car at an angle to it's forward momentum. So, it's drifting, just not very good drifting.

^ i'd have to agree that imo an awd is capable of a drift mainly because it can begin its drift/powerslide/whatever at the entrance of the turn and control it (just not through a counter steer). an fwd typically powerslides exiting the corner, also cant counter steer and tends to understeer to the outside of the turn

one question, now drifting an AWD car seems impossible if you THINK about it (yes i know they can/rally an what not) jus hear me out.

now in a rwd car only the back tires are spinning and you guide with the front, with an awd car if you lost traction wouldnt that mean you have no traction too all tires meaning you have no REAL way of controlling it ,your kinda going with the flow.

also, on normal asphalt it would seem hard too lose tracion in a fashionable tOkYo DrFt manor...

i have never driven an awd car, not sure how they work with the whole traction control, but it seems on paper that it would be unstable.

Once again, depends on how they're tuned. The differential in an AWD can be set up to have 35% of power to the front wheels and 65% to the rear, or a 35/65 ratio. Some can have 50/50. That's usually why a drifter with a R33/R34 Skyline will more than likely setup the differential to have most of it to the back, or just change out the drivetrain. Just as long as the car isn't set up like or even close to a 50/50, it can be done.

ya i know your not being rude just saying . (Skimed trough the whole thing)in AWD you have allot of speed and angle at the same time and wont spin out and RWD you just cant go into a turn at very high speeds and expect not to spin or anything you need to have a line where you can control it. even if there is more power to the rear the fron is still pulling.also AWD cant drift a long turn cus the front tiers are pulling so it will stop eventually.(FWD is powersliding to) ive tryed both power sliding and drifting and power sliding is way easyer. i dont spin out and have complet control of the car while powersliding trough the turns. get 90 degree angles no problem and like i said wont spin out.also you dont have to countersteer good like in that vid some one posted. so ya and some skylines have RB25 or 20 to drift or keep the 26 in them and put an RB25 trans wich makes it RWD and not AWD. i want to put an RB26 with an RB25 trans in my Tbird to make it a drift projekt (nobady drifts a Tbird so ima feel cool )

Now I don't really know much about the whole switching more power to front/rear, but I was playing Gran Turismo 3 last night and it says you can put more TORQUE in either front or rear. Is that actually true? Is it just torque you can adjust to the wheels or is it HP too?

No you cant adjust the HP, only torque. Because torque is a measurement of force, HP is a measurement of work over time. Hope this makes sense.

in forza you can adjust anything, allowing you to even match your own car if u drift outside of the video game world. for drift, drag, and just plain out racing i think forza has the upper hand. and for those sunken wheels, they are teh sexmore pictures!

Wow, I'm really surprised nobody mentioned Battle Gear 3 (or 4) yet. Its based off Initial D but its waaaaaay more realistic than the actual Initial D arcade game(utter crap). Graphics wise, its not GT4 but, a good comparison for their good physics for drifting (if GT4 made a drifting game it could possibly be this haha). It has alot more of an Arcade feel rather than a simluation feel......but it still is realistic and has good physics along with the arcade style fun factor. I gotta say...its my favorite (and probably the best and most fun) drifting game out there.

It was only released in Japan (PS2) but I'm lucky enough to have the actual arcade standing here in the bowling alley next to my house (50 cents)!

all the games out there that incorporate drifting are easy for me. The developers wanted to make things like they are in real life but until they figure out how to strap you into a sim. it will never be the same.
