I was 10 when SMRPG came out, and I still felt that the game was kind of childish. However, I do believe it was a fantastic game, fun to play, and the graphics were by far the best to be seen in an SNES game. Dont get me wrong, its no FFIII, FFII, or Chrono Trigger, but its definitely an above average game.JimmyMethod wrote:What's with everyone loving SMRPG?I played it... I hated it. It was boring. The storyline (70-80% of any RPG, imho) was crap. No real depth of character. I couldn't get involved with it. The play was ok, but it was no, say... FFTactics.
Meh. I miss side scrollers in general.

The Super Star Wars games were pretty good too.xekushnr wrote:Get Breath of Fire I & II, Final Fantasy II & III, Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, Illusion of Gaia, Lufia II, Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore, Super Mario RPG...there are others too, but these are all good.

I'm afraid Bart is right. Of course newer games have better graphics, but I dont think the stories are any better. In fact, I think they were better back then. You couldnt use the graphics to cover up a ****ty story like they do nowadays. The emphasis used to be on story and gameplay, and now its graphics first.brizanden wrote:^what if u r someone who thinks pong can out story tell ff7 or hl2 u got problems lol. i also like pretty things hence i like newer games. I also do cg work sometimes so im kinda biased towards good graphics
Half Life/Valve are a very rare exception.Modern games are getting flatter and duller. Sometimes they'll present an interesting story IDEA, but it'll be lost or ruined with bad storyTELLING or the game will be so bad you can't tolerate playing it to enjoy the story.brizanden wrote:^i disagree the re franchias and both hl games also portal are some of the best storys i have seen in a game.
Its a mix.ERIC s.-14 wrote:I think most people will just say certain games from a certain time are better because those are the games they grew up on, I think Goldeneye and Zelda Ocarina of time for N64 is the best games ever because thats what I played in 5th grade as a kid. Looking back Goldeneye was utterly terrible. I get bored with really oldschool games because its not what I grew up on.
I may be building a small arcade cabinit with an old computer I have, if I can get this keyboard I have to register enough keys at the same time....I don't think the emulator would be so bad if you had acade joysticks and big red buttonsotterman wrote:Heres what I have at the moment (still buying off of ebay)

If you only had a few SNES games, buy Harvest Moon, SuperMario RPG and Turtles in Time.
SNES = games that are still fun as hell after they're years old.
People always ask why I still play and buy NES and SNES games. I know I can just download the emulators for free or buy one of those new SNES/NES Emulators and plug it into my tv and download games.
But you gotta blow into the disks, you gotta press reset a million times to get it to work, gotta have the ****ty analog connection. That is the full experience.

Fcuk yeah, Thats the only game my G-Pa would play and we loved it. I liked BattleToads from the original Nintendo.otterman wrote:Desert Strike
Damn that game was hard. I lost my copy a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away... i.e. when I moved several years ago), but damn was it cool. I still have Super ESB. Also, next to impossible. The play control just sucked, though in Super RotJ it go better.otterman wrote:Super Star Wars

Don't you HAVE to have Direct X 10 to even touch that game? Or only for full settings?Red coupe wrote:
Ever heard of Crysis? Its like one of the newest greatest computer games that only people with RIDICULOUS computers can play with full graphics. I've noticed that when criticized the fans of the game often goto the same defense : "You must only be able to play it on low"
