What's with everyone loving SMRPG?I played it... I hated it. It was boring. The storyline (70-80% of any RPG, imho) was crap. No real depth of character. I couldn't get involved with it. The play was ok, but it was no, say... FFTactics.

Meh. I miss side scrollers in general.

I was 10 when SMRPG came out, and I still felt that the game was kind of childish. However, I do believe it was a fantastic game, fun to play, and the graphics were by far the best to be seen in an SNES game. Dont get me wrong, its no FFIII, FFII, or Chrono Trigger, but its definitely an above average game.

I can't beileve nobody's mentioned EarthBound. That game was crazy on crack and good at it.

Also, LucasArts put out the Super Star Wars trilogy, which were fun side scrollers.

The Super Star Wars games were pretty good too.

I'm afraid Bart is right. Of course newer games have better graphics, but I dont think the stories are any better. In fact, I think they were better back then. You couldnt use the graphics to cover up a ****ty story like they do nowadays. The emphasis used to be on story and gameplay, and now its graphics first.

Also, scientists have proven that Tactics is an awesome game and Chrono Trigger is better than Crono Cross. I dont know how they did it, but those guys are smart. Dont **** with scientists.

I didn't know that was you on STEAM, I'll add you when I'm on next. I'm encoding video tonight so it will be tomorrow at the earliest.

^i disagree the re franchias and both hl games also portal are some of the best storys i have seen in a game. not to say a few old games are good as well. ff7 and ff9 are some of my favs for story along with crisis core is gonna be sweet. Mass effect and kotar I and II are both new rpgs that look good and have very good story as well.

Half Life/Valve are a very rare exception.Modern games are getting flatter and duller. Sometimes they'll present an interesting story IDEA, but it'll be lost or ruined with bad storyTELLING or the game will be so bad you can't tolerate playing it to enjoy the story.

The current state of the videogame industry is lamentable. Aside from greats like Valve and Introversion, there's just nothing outstanding anymore. The last 2 or 3 years have been a steep downhill slide. At least the late-90s offered us the likes of Half Life, Homeworld, Diablo II...What do we have now? A bunch of boring copycat multiplayer-only shooters and some cash-cow-speed-cranked, content-absent garbage spilling out from the likes of EA.

No, the "old" days of gaming were far superior. There's a reason we're still playing them 15 and 25 years later. I really can't see myself wanting to go back to 2008 to relive lost gaming wonder 30 years from now. Yeah, I'll still be re-playing Half Life 2 and Darwinia on some decrepit, antique computer for which parts are nigh on impossible to find, but those are the exceptions, and certainly not the rule.

I think most people will just say certain games from a certain time are better because those are the games they grew up on, I think Goldeneye and Zelda Ocarina of time for N64 is the best games ever because thats what I played in 5th grade as a kid. Looking back Goldeneye was utterly terrible. I get bored with really oldschool games because its not what I grew up on.

Most people, maybe. That's not my reason, however.

Realize that even though I "grew up" concurrently with many of those older games, I did not PLAY THEM while growing up. Not until much later. I mean, that's the case with some, like Kirby or Mario. But I never owned a Super Nintendo. I grew up playing Sonic on my Genesis...and as fun as Sonic is, I rarely have the urge to pull out the Genesis and play that either.

It has nothing to do with what I grew up with. It has to do with what's a good game. That's just me, though.

And FWIW, I always thought Goldeneye was crap, even when I played it as a kid when it was new.

Its a mix.

Some games are crap, and just seemed amazing back then...but some games are pretty damn fun.

sure the graphics are nothing com paired to modern games...but that doesn't always matter. Some games like b0mber man don't need the graphics...it makes it worse.

Graphics are some what like getting a short shifter for your car...Its all flashy and nice but after a week you get used to it and its normal. Its funny after playing and old system for a while you get used to it, and on some of the better games you'll be like "this looks really good"

Ever heard of Crysis? Its like one of the newest greatest computer games that only people with RIDICULOUS computers can play with full graphics. I've noticed that when criticized the fans of the game often goto the same defense : "You must only be able to play it on low"

The enjoyment of the game is mostly its realistic graphics.

No one has played a SNES for its realistic graphics in a good number of years. For the most part they could just rely on graphics, then just had to make the game really fun to play. And since the games had to be shorter they had to make it more fun to replay.

oh....well, your opinion is wrong.

The only way to fix it is to download the free demo of the greatest racing game ever from http://www.lfs.net then buy an S2 license and race the LX6 on Westhill reverse. (If you have the PS2 steering wheel it will work on the computer, start a thread on it and I'll show you how to set it up)

Its a little wierd if you don't have a clutch pedal, because you still have to rev match on downshifts, so with auto clutch you just brake and blip the throttle.

If you have a joystick you can use it like a hand clutch though, and if you have anything else with pedal you can use that.

its cause video games have become so marketable and in demand. the giant coroporation approach is coming along and investing so much money they dont want to take risks with new ideas, but there are still smaller independent developers that have some very good ideas. just give it time things will head back up in video games again. i think the improved graphics/sound is just a stage. so much is being put into them to make it sound and look feel real. this is good, but ur right they are forgetting story telling elements. eventually the visuals will get to a very high level and then the story telling will come back and it will be so involving it will feel like ur living the game not just sitting at a keyboard or with a gamepad in your hands staring at a screen.

Goldeneye was never crap!! The only thing I hated about goldeneye was objob(?). I hated when people picked him, that shoet bastard was a b**** and a half to hit. Of course im talking N64, was there one for SNES?

I owned a SNES all the way until like 10 when it broke, then moved on to playstation which had its own era of great games the I wont get into... I remember renting mario paint from blockbuster, also remember Final Knock-out with this bigas$ dude that you couldnt beat.

Going down the list looking at some of the screenshots, I remember back in the day when something like Madden 94' came out saying to yourself "daaaaaaaaam!!, that looks sooo real!!"

Heres what I have at the moment (still buying off of ebay)

PaperBoyMortal Kombat 1 Mortal Kombat 3 UltimateDonkey Kong CountrySuper Mario WorldSuper Star WarsAliens VS PredatorDesert StrikeHarvest Moon (kiiiick assss)Alladin (game is crazy as ****)Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven StarsTeenAge Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time

If you only had a few SNES games, buy Harvest Moon, SuperMario RPG and Turtles in Time.

SNES = games that are still fun as hell after they're years old.

People always ask why I still play and buy NES and SNES games. I know I can just download the emulators for free or buy one of those new SNES/NES Emulators and plug it into my tv and download games.

But you gotta blow into the disks, you gotta press reset a million times to get it to work, gotta have the ****ty analog connection. That is the full experience.

I may be building a small arcade cabinit with an old computer I have, if I can get this keyboard I have to register enough keys at the same time....I don't think the emulator would be so bad if you had acade joysticks and big red buttons :D

Dude, I was looking at that game last night and almost played it...but didn't.

Random.

Aero fighters does indeed kicks some ***...but its pretty hard, especially by your self. With my friend we almost beat it.

Secrets of Mana is a pretty damn good game...But I have come to the realization that I don't like RPGs.

Damn that game was hard. I lost my copy a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away... i.e. when I moved several years ago), but damn was it cool. I still have Super ESB. Also, next to impossible. The play control just sucked, though in Super RotJ it go better.

Don't you HAVE to have Direct X 10 to even touch that game? Or only for full settings?
