ok old trade and i know a lot of it has been cover.
but lets make easy for me to better understand what oil i should run.

1.ok i got my swap with 51,000 miles on it.
2.i live in florida, gets pretty hot down here. so most likely 20w50 would do the trick, right?
3.this is my dd, and will attend monthly drift events.
4.should i run synthetic oil, motor was not running synthetic before.
5.i heard someone say that you can run royal purple if the motor already has been driven with other oils, True?
btw the motor is stock.

thanks

Here in Puerto Rico is Hot all year so I use Royal purple XTR 10W-40 for the track and Mobil-1 10W-40 Syn. for use in street. And since i don't use the car only for weekend I always change every 6 month even if it has 100 miles from the last change.

So for the 2011 summer im Switching over to Royal Purple 10w-40 with the K&N oil filter. I Have Been Running Mobil 1 10w-30 in my RB26, but after pulling apart my buddies RB26 and alls he ran was RP 10w-40, the Engine was CLEAN :dblthumb: . I Couldn't believe my eyes. I heard alot of horror stories about RP burning and misteriously disapearing but Now I'm A Believer. Hopfully It will be just as good for me in my highly moded RB26 we will see.

Did you type that backwards, or is that what you meant? The thickness at operating temp is going to be the same regardless of season obviously, so need need to change that, but start up when the oil is at ambient temp, you want it to be as thin as possible, especially in the winter. I think this is an excellent article about oil weights (it doesn't even start into additives, detergents, and other stuff though.)

I think it clears up a lot of misconceptions about oil ratings.

I run and have run Rotella T 15-40 in many engines since 03' and love it...its cheap, good mix, and overall after many many miles the engines internals look new still. I normally run with a Pure One Filter as well. I beat the snot out of the engines I use this oil in all the way to a full glowing red manifold, turbo and exhaust..lol.. This Blackstone report speaks for itself.

Left is Shell Rotella-T @ 8100 miles, second column is the avg., and the third column is Mobil 1 @ 2600 miles.

yeah cj i was super tired when i wrote that lol i used 0-30 european formula in winter and 10-30 in summer, as far as company i typically try to run penzoil (their platinum or highest quality) or mobil one, also i should add which is funny to my, a buddy of mine on his old mk3 ran 10-30 year round on his 7mgte and this was recycled oil did that for YEARS (he is original owner of mk3 and crashed it couple years ago, he ran recycled oil for at least 10 years) without a single problem, boosted the hell out of it and daily drove it until one day his wife drove it...

reviving an old thread... sorry.

i run rotella t6 5w-40 in both my sti and my rb25. alot of boxer engine guys swear by it and my logic is if its good enough for that motor which is very particular when it comes to anything then im sure my rb will love it. plus the subaru loves it, no consumption what so ever and my rb tends to eat mobil 1 so im going to feed her some t6 and see how she like that.
