Dad's a big fan of border collies. This ones a collie/lab mix:

A year later. The one on the left is a pure border collie, the one on the right is the same dog in the previous photo.

Theyre good looking, smart, and easy to maintain and train. But their personalities seem to lack a spark. Theyre so perfect theyre boring, I think.

Here's a cool dog of the corgi-type heritage:

Swedish Vallhund, now these actually have breeders in the US, and are AKC recognized. Great little dogs, big dog personality (tenacious cattle herders!)

No such thing as too much when it comes to dogs, the greatest animals ever! (Sorry, cat people.)

I wish I could find old photos of the first dog that I got when I was 10, a black and white beagle/basset/lab mix I named Snoopy, then renamed Mac. He will be missed.

Ideally, I'd like to get a lot of land in a somewhat remote area to raise a whole bunch of them.

LOL, I'm getting the itch to launch Photoshop and slap an 80s MB tail on a 2004 350Z.

ah, the cowboy bebop dog...

anyways, on the topic of mutts... they should be genetically superior to a pedigree breed, so i'm all for mutts...

Anyways, my fav's are the English bulldog, the boxer, the akita, the german shepard (i own one and like him w/all his inbred defects and all), and the husky.

Ever since we got Annabelle I have become a sucker for Dobermans... We have two other dogs, Oscar (mutt) and Duchess (lab chow mix), but Annabelle is by far the best looking.

Wow, Colies, your Dobe is gorgeous, the first pic came out great with the eyes and all. They are such attractive dogs, its a shame they have so many problems and people have been breeding them wrong for so long..

chingon: i'm all for mutts, its that hybrid vigor that make them more hardy than most purebreeds (i won't say all, because there are some breeds out there that haven't been tainted yet). mutts are great, you can get a mix of two breeds you like and get the best of both worlds (if you can find one that is, but that's what petfinder.org is for )

I really want to adopt one of these:

The Ferrari Enzo of dogs! Anyway, I'd absolutely love to adopt a retired racer.

my old poly sci professor and her husband had one of those ex racing dogs. So damn nervous and finicky. Thing threw up everytime it was left alone, anywhere. It had to wear a blanket if it was less than like 75 degrees out. Dunno, they are beautiful dogs, just so much work.

They do need to wear coats when it's cold outside due to their insanely low body fat, but they're not all quite that nervous. In general, they're shy and reserved with strangers.

Unfortunately, some of the ex-racers were horribly abused and have subsequent behavioral problems. Reputable adoption places will let owners know about dogs that are extremely skittish or have other problems. They don't want people adopting the dogs and then abandoning them after they can't handle the animal's problems.

I'd guess that your poli-sci teacher either wasn't informed of the dog's nature, or knew about the problems and decided to take it in out of the kindness of her heart.

I've met quite a few greyhounds that, although maybe not extremely enthusiastic in strange places, were still fairly calm and friendly. I also know a few folks who own them and don't have any problems leaving them alone.

They *do* need frequent exercise. Then again, so do I.

the way the flash is lighting up these dogs eyes they look evil. If I actually dropped coin on a dog I would probably get a Jack Russel or a Corgi, I likes them lowrider dogs.

Jesus tapdancing Christ that Labradoodle is hideous.....

The "stock" poodle ain't a looker either, it looks like the result of some sort of fraternity prank.

I'd take either a Corgi or an Australian Terrier.

I'd go with my Bichon Frise. He is no ordinary Bichon. No fancy poodle haircut. No fancy name like "Carlton".

Just shaggy cut and his name is Bo.

yeah my professor knew all about it, and she exercises every day, so she takes the dog for a jog with her. They have to drug it to transport it anywhere, because it doesn't like traveling in vehicles.
