The time has come for me to do my brakes. They've been soft for a while and they are finally singing and I'm getting some metal on metal on the discs. The drums I don't think are even braking at all anymore. The slip and vdc off lights are stuck on right now so I think it is time.

I want to get the best brakes I can that don't require any modification. I'm going to be towing and occasionally offroading with some 32s or 33s.

Who's running what and what works the best?

Another vote for EBC. I have the 3GD Series Dimpled and Slotted rotors and greenstuff pads. They're a bit noisier and made a moaning sound when they got heated up (the moaning goes away with age), but the lack of fade and low dust can't be beat! :bigthumb:

Yeah I read that a while back. I'm not one to post without doing some research first. It's not bad for discs and pads but I needed up going with powerstop slotted and drilled discs. I know they can break, but I really need the stopping power.

I am really looking more for opinions/recommendations on drum brake replacements. I probably should have specified that in the OP.

Ah! I've also done some looking for better rear brakes, but haven't found anything exceeding OEM in terms of performance. I'm guessing there's just not a market for us, at least for our vehicles. As far as I know, the best you can do is replace the components with whatever brand the parts store recommends the highest (Napa?). Have a read through this thread though, there's a pretty good discussion on rear brake performance:

Like many drum brakes, the automatic adjusters on these don't really keep the shoes adjusted up against the drums very well. I have always preferred a high firm pedal in my vehicles. So I jack the rear end up and adjust the rear brakes myself once or twice a year. It does make a difference in pedal height, more so if you haven't been keeping up with it. And they will actually start doing something.

Another thing I do is adjust the brake pedal pushrod length so it has minimum clearance between it and the master cylinder. Thats a one time thing, but gives you a bit higher pedal.

These are actually pretty big drums - I'm not sure how much more stopping power you could put in the back before they started trying to lock up under heavy braking, at which point your ABS would kick in anyway.
