Can anyone help me upgrade to the best available brake upgrades for a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder?
I do not know which rotors or pads (or anything else that might improve braking) to choose for the best braking.

well for rotors, you could try DBA (disc brakes australia) if you have the money.
I went with EBC slotted rotors because DBA didnt make a disc for my 98 qx4. For disc brakes, the most you want is slotted, never go with drilled as it lowers structural integrity can crack

For pads (which make a big difference in braking performance), I went with Hawk LTS which is a ferro carbon compound similar to their HPS pads but better. Same amount of dust as regular pads though with alot of stopping power, no noise though.

If you want to go a step up, EBC yellow stuff is great for more stopping power

if youre more concerned with noise and dust, you can go with hawk ceramic pads

whatever you choose, after you install your new setup, you have to "burn" in your pads to your disc by making high speed severe stops. NEVER clamp on you brakes and make a full complete stop while youre burning the brakes in as you can make a "hot spot" (safety a priority first though). i forgot the specific speeds you go to but i think its 50 mph tp 5 mph 4 times then 30 to 5 3 times, something like that, that you can look up.

Also, if you havnt, bleed your brake fluid with new fluid, that also improves braking performance (depending on how bad your old fluid was), I use ATE super blue

Does DBA have more stopping power than EBC?

By the way, do these work on a 2002 Pathfinder?

I went with the BAER Decalla cross drilled/slotted rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Right after the install and after i seated the pads, the thing stopped on a dime! But after i had my local japanese mechanic change out my brake lines to stainless, and replaced and blead the fluid, i had air bubbles and the pedal play and grab is speratic. I installed the discs and pads myself. Havent had a chance to get the brake fluid re flushed with some redline dot4 or other higher performance fluid the "right" way yet. No more air bubbles dammit! Other than that, the rotors are still solid after 2 years, and not warped or cracked with minimal ruface rust.

I didn't know there were so many companies that had rotor upgrades for the R50.

Anyone know how many pistons do the front brakes have?

Also, how does the dust affect?

ok thanks town!

I think I will be trying EBC Red stuff, since yellowstuff is too dusty and redstuff is the second best at braking with minimal dist.
My rims will be new, so I want them to look great all the time.

As to rotors, I do not know if EBC Slotted or something else

I have the EBC 3GD Sport rotors, they are dimpled and slotted.. for the almost the past 6 years now. Best rotors i have ever seen wear so nice and still work so well with the same pads i put on about 6 years ago too.

Edit: Maybe its 5 years im not 100% sure, but nonetheless.

Are they noisy? Because I have heard that dimpled and slotted are noisy

Also would there be a noticeable difference between dimpled and slotted or just slotted?

By the way, what color are your rotors?

I will have to go with yellow stuff, since redstuff aren't available for SUV's. The pads that they sell as "redstuff" are just Greenstuff Supreme

Anyone know of pads that perform like yellowstuff but have less dust?

I swear mine were redstuff pads, but the only other brand i can think of are akebonos.

I have akebono euro ultra premium ceramic pads on all 4 corners in my audi, on my dads sonata he also has akebonos, ceramic but not sure on the specific model line.

Still i will figure out as long as it doesnt wear off when i change my brakes on my pathfinder what pads they were as i dont have the receipt nor box. I swear they are the least dusting pad with awesome stopping ability i have ever had or seen. In terms of the dust, as long as it doesnt rain, my wheels only get ROAD dust on them or general dust from pollen and stuff, i never have brake dust not even a little.

So which do you recommend for the pathfinder? I want best stopping power with minimal dust.

I think I will be trying out the Hawk HPS:

or Hawk LTS:

What do you think?

I think the HPS are good, i was gonna get those for the audi but i ended up with the akebonos.

The hps make more dust then the Hawk Ceramic, look at those if you want hawk.

I will let you know about my final decision. This is my first time actually researching for brake pads, so I want to be sure about what I buy.

Ok so, I read that EBC rotor plus EBC pads make an excellent combination, so I will be buying the EBC slotted rotors and EBC yellowstuff.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Bought the EBC slotted frotors plus the EBC redstuff brake pads. EBC does not list the redstuff pads for the Pathfinder, since it is an SUV and redstuff are used, according to EBC for cars, but they fit the ones listed for the Q45.

So I got great brake pads with low dust to keep my wheels extra clean and my stopping distance short (hopefully)!

Can't wait for the install!
