why i cant run lean for a long time !!! ???
if you are running lean, then your engine is most likely running hot. too much of this will lead to
melting engine parts such as pistons and valves....

best bet is to have the air/fuel ratio checked....get a tune...save your engine.

well, i changed my Y pipe... this is how stock m35x Y pipe looks like: (exactly like the 350z HR Y PIPE)

Image

replaced it with custom made Y inlet 2.5 flange to match with the HFC and outlet 2.5 also to mach with the stock Med pipe

The rasp in 2.5k or 3.5k rpm gone!! but the rasp come back after 5k rpm (only in WOT)!!!! i dont know why!!!

In WOT the car sounds like they forgot a piece of metal inside the exhaust!! anyways i had enough!! i will live with this sound. i wont spend more money.

before (with the stock Y & Berk HFC) i felt that the rpm becoming slow in 2.5k 3.5K RPM, now this problem gone. the car accelerate smooth in all RPMs.

the best thing, i had now a high MPG, as per the screen, before i was getting 15.6 now am getting 17.8!!

and when i drive 60mph my rpm below 2.5k

few questions:

1- how much for the custom y-pipe?
2- how much for the entire exhaust system? not including labor
3- how do you know for "sure" the stock y pipe is EXACTLY the same as the HR motor.

since i have the AWD (X series) as you, i will probably go through the same route as you hence any info you can share here is pretty important. Also big woot for the extra MPG. it's worth it to see a good increase there.

just by looking at the stock Y pipe (above) it really looks like the HR y pipe....

just curious JDM, when you had a custom built ypipe, did the installer weld on flex joints/pipes?? that will help save your exhaust piping due to the torque from the engine moving....just a thought.

1- i ordered M2 y pipe for 350z 03-06.. when it reached i found that it wont fit, so i had to do custom one. ( i didnt want to order HR Y pipe and then pay for shipping again from US to Bahrain). we used the inlet flanges from the m2 y pipe, cost's me 80 buks.

2- i didnt do an exhaust system, my mods only: HFC, Y Pipe, Plenum spacer, K&n Drop in

Because its look exactly like the HR 350Z Y (ABOVE PIC)..but am not sure wither u need to modify it or no.

i feel the car now is pushing more in high end, b4 the mods when its reach 80mph i feel the car is dead!! now car alive in high speeds and its going more.

for the MPG, yes very good results i got without tune!

no welding in the joints, they installed the Custom Y pipe with bolts, (like the stock one) i didnt want to weld it with the med pipe or HFC!! u never know when i want to change or put the custom Y again!

u mean that because i didnt weld the joints, am getting sound in WOT? like a peice of metal hitting inside the exhaust. i only have this sound when i drive and accelerate hard, when the car in N, and i WOT there no sound!!

the flext joints are 'moveable / flexing' points within the exhaust piping to avoid cracking your exhaust piping (exhaust manifold, cats, piping, etc) as your engine produces power the engine will move thus causing stress to your exhaust piping. there should be a point in which there's flex to allow the movement to NOT break your stuff.

in your stock ypipe, you can see at both inlets, there are two pieces of tubing that looks like it's wrapped with mesh -- near the top of the inlets -- those two pieces are the flex joints which enable your exhaust piping to flex.

so if your custom ypipe does not have flext joints, you run the risk of breaking your exhaust system

http://www.fastintentions.com/product_i ... ucts_id=18

as far as your 'rattling' noise at WOT-- not sure what that is....could be something loose :gotme

if you don't have a free flowing exhaust, then again, you are just trying to get out a lot of exhaust out of a small opening after your ypipe...the stock mid pipes and mufflers run a smaller diameter piping so SQUEEZING your power out of small exits is killing your set up....

well, yeah i knew wat did u mean by the flexible joints, yes they cut those flex joints from the m2 Y pipe and used them in my custom Y.

When the car in N! and WOT! there is no rattle, even when i drive in 2.5 or 3.5 rpm!! once i fully hit the pedal!! an annoying rattle starts!!!!

my guts tell me that it rattles because it's not fully secure. also you do not want the system tightly bolt down because all the vibration will break your system.

back to my question before, you ordered a Motordyne XYZ Y pipe for the DE engine, i'm assuming this is for the 350z year 03-06 and it didn't fit; so you cut some of the part and welded to a piece that your shop made for you. is that correct?

nope, what i ordered is M2 (not MD) y pipe for 03-06 350z, once i receive it, i found out that it wont fit. coz m35x use the exact Y PIPE for the HR 350z 07-08

so i had to modify it

hi all again!!

well, i sold my tribute!! :( am very sad! i had that car for 10 years!!

anyways, i bought the Fujitsubo Exhaust for the M but i didnt like the single tips on each side!!

so i bought a 4 3" tips from MagnaFlow! and did a very small Y pipe at the end of each muffler. to put the quad tips.

i stayed in the exhaust shop from 7:30 morning till 4pm!! its really hard to make the both side match perfectly!

now i have a full exhaust system!

Berks HFC - Y Pipe - Fujitsubo Cat Back!!

Fujitsubo Mid-pipe

The mufflers after cutting the Fujitsubo oval tips!

The sound is good! in WOT its little bit loud! on idle its normal.

but i really feel the car is lighter! less weight!

only one problem remains!

when i hit the gas from stop i hear a sound of a metal hitting a metal!!

i thought that the sound comes from the transmission, but after installing the exhaust i hear the sound now more!!

its only happens when i lunch the car.

I might do the same to my set up by adding quad tips but only if I can find a shop to make some nice welds. IMO your set up would look better if the tips were closer together. Im surprised you think its loud, mine is quiet and I have less restriction compared to you and a V8.

its not Loud! its only louder than stock. and you can only hear the exhaust sound in WOT.

To make the quad tips match on each side is very difficult! due to the the short space between the mufflers and the bumper edge!

i think i will have another session in the exhaust shop to match them better.
