I have been on the forums here at NICO for about a year or so , and have met a few nice people.The one thing I have noticed is that if you make an error like leaving your caps lock on or mispell a word here or there, there is always some one right there to rip you a new a$$ hole. I have been in car clubs for over 22 years in many different cars.I have been a member of Inland Mopars for over 15 years. I started my 240sx project last year and joined the site to make some friends in the 240 community ,but have only been met with people that would rather s$%t on you for something like your typing skills.I admit that I am not a great typer, and do not always spell every word correctly.I am here to talk cars and share insight with people that might know more about these cars than I do. Please keep in mind that we are all into cars of one form or another and should try and support one another in the car hobby. you never know who you are taking a stab at!

I have to disagree with you on some points. I never hate on typing skills, although if I have seen thirteen threads about a new topic that a noob has started a new thread about, then I feel that it is someones duty to let the noob know of the search button, and if a little ish talking is said then so be it. I feel there should be a minimum amount of posts on other peoples threads before starting their own threads. I also feel there should be a filter for the topics, if the topic is similar or identical to other threads then they should be directed to a list of similar threads.

I feel that alot of people just come here to ask one or two illegitimate questions, that have been covered 8-10 times in the past. Its like beating a dead horse.

Also, its the internet, and no one should be repremanded ro black listed from your shop for being a little brash on a forum. Me personally, I am the same person off the net as I am on. I tell you whats on my mind. Therefore, if I was to be blacklisted from a shop, as you have mentioned you could do, Ur shop wouldnt do very well locally, I would make sure of it.

But, once you get past all their horse s41t, it winds up being and all right place.

When some one posts up wheels and a person who has more expierence with wheels (not higher post count) tells the OP that they are ugly or the offsets suck ect is probably doing it because they KNOW that they won't fit or will look like sh*t ect. Couple that with the fact that people get butt hurt easily unless the person is like.... "hey OP I don't think those wheels look good on a S(13/14). You should try and do this mmm k pumpkin?"

You are right people on here are grown *** men, were not going to talk to you like 3 years olds.

Also for the grammatical thing, we could ask them to become better typers but that prolly won't be happening either... hence the flaming. Constructive critism is not flaming, but then the OP get's butt hurt and starts talking ish then yea, don the flame suits.

FAR less than other forums. From a staff perspective you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Crack down on some a$$ and you are accused of being a Nazi, let members work things out and the forum is accused of being full of flamers/haters.

Try one of the other 240 forums as they seem to be bashing on each other most of the time.

Hello. I like you. I'll give you the short and dirty explanation: I've been a member since the old Nico/old vb bulletin board where things were cool because we had maybe only a few hundred members.

The jist of it is, the forum is huge now and you're dealing with a lot of kids. The internet is kind of like road-rage, people feel anonymous and will call you out on a mistake and rag on you; but they would never do this vis-a-vis.

On the flip side though, if you ask for opinions, expect a few critics. You just got to weed through all the hear-say and trash-talk. This is why I do not post in the 240 forum (well once in a blue-moon I do). I recommend the technical forums or maybe another forum entirely for more concise information and genuine help. As far as grammar, and typing skills, well it makes the people reading your post more likely to answer your question and makes the poster look more educated. depends on what you got. my dodge has the original 230 flathead 6 with a carter carb and a split exhaust manifold. i got a transmission out of a '53 so 3rd and 4th are synchronized, makes driving in town a lot easier.

Myself and a team of 45 moderators / admins put a TON of work into this place.

Consider it a business, or at the very least a place for Nissan enthusiasts to hang out, research, learn, fellowship, and discuss.

Given that, we'd like it to reflect the level of effort that all those people expend, not to mention the countless hours of dedication by all you members, who generate 98% of the content here... And that's exactly what draws new people here - they're looking for answers.

Since the Holy Almighty Intarweb can only decipher 1's and 0's into useful information, your means of communication is critical... this stuff is here, permanently, forever, as a record of your activity here.

Example:

If someone does a search for "wheel repair in Hesperia", and the only thing the Googlebot can find is:

"Deen0 teh d00d whut FiXorZ wheelz fo' yore whip in teh SoCal izz at 3-six-0 deGreE wheals", then you're gonna starve to death.

However, if there's a thread titled, "Alloy Wheel Repair - Hesperia / Oak Hills, California - Contact Dino at http://www.360degreewheels.com", and it goes on to describe how good you are at what you do, then you're well on your way to a comfy retirement and a cabin in the Hamptons.

Therefore, spelling and describing their issue of discussion becomes the only way to ensure the information is accessible by an uninformed searcher. And those are the people we are here to help and take care of.

I'll agree that politeness goes a long way, but I'd encourage everyone to take a healthy dose of pride in their posts, AND be polite and helpful to those who don't... and lead by example.
