I had a '75 280Z but it never ran while I had it so that doesn't really count. I did however own a 2000 MR2 Spyder for a while and absolutely loved that car. The size never scared me at all when on the highway. The blind spots did until I figured out a way to adjust my mirrors so that I never had a blind spot. I got rid of that car to get my Z32, which I absolutely love, but do miss the MR2 all of the time. That thing was a truly fun car, being able to take corners like nothing else.

well you tell me if i had a sports car befor my z. i have a mazdaspeed protege. 4 doors, rear bench seat, and a 2.0l turbocharged 5 speed. i have a friend at work that has a miata that cant keep up with me in the corners, or the straight. ive ran my protege against a z32tt and could keep with him all day on the straight, and leave him in the curves. so tell me if my dd is a sports car. ill gladly put it against any ttz32 that hasnt been heavly moded.

whew. dont want my insurance to go up. my point is what do you get by being in the sports car "class" other than higher insurance? you have already pointed out a few cars that aren't sports cars, but can perform just as good as a sports car. yes the 300 was my first "sports car". wait i have a 2+2. nm forgot it has back seats. they dont have anything other than 350's, and 300's around here. i saw the car, liked it, and bought it. crucify me. i joined nico to learn about z's. so please quit bagging on the first time buyers who are trying to learn.

it coudl fly and it still would nto be a sports car

GRM did a test a few years back, and they pitten a classis porche 911 and a jaruar XKE against a new honda adysee minivan, the van outpaced the veintage sports cars in straight lines, turning, and braking, that doesent make it a sports car

someone referenced a high HP truck, the ford lightening came wiht a supercharged V8, still not a sports car

the BMW M3 has a 500 hp V8, still nto a sports car

The Z is my first sports car and previous to that I was drving a cavalier. Although never having any knowledge or experience with any of the Z family, I would trade my z32 for a 240z in a heartbeat.

I just bought my Z two weeks ago and have been car-less for a couple of years but I used to drive a Subaru SVX. I'd say it was a sports car...

have you driven a 78 2 door granada? also a 2 door, also with a straight 6, also nto a sports car

yes BMW makes a sporty version fo their popular # series, and has ofered great performance in a sedan for many years, the 2002 was a very popular car in motorsports back in the say, but it's still nto a sports car

and as i already pointed otu perfrmance alone does not makea sports car, and many sports cars are actually not very fast

z32 is my first but I know some of the history just not everything I do my research like every other guy here. Sheez youtube makes it easy and wikipedia. I am still learning about the z's configuration as far as pretty much everything but if your a car fanatic like me the learning come easier so I cant say you should judge ppl who have only had sports cars. I think the g35 is a badass car stock but that has 4 seats so it shouldnt count. Or the prelude - which by no means has anything on the z but the car was fun to drive but again it has 4 seats. The guy up there was right when he called you a prick

Well I have had lots of Z's--a 1979 zx--Two 1977 280Z's--One 1973 240Z--One 1975 280Z--One 1982 Turbo ZX--My favorite was the 77 280z--That car would still run 145 with over 230 thousand miles on the original engine!! No head or valve work--I used to blow 5.0 litre Mustangs off the road with it--My fastest was the 1982 Turbo ZX--Its the fastest car I ever drove--Had it going 145 with lots of pedal left--I now own a 1993 Z32--I absolutely love this car--Its a combination of all of the Z's before--My least favorite was the 240Z--A/C was horrible--Heater was horrible--Windows were always foggy in wet weather--Handling was not great--It was fun to drive when road conditions were clean and dry--They also had rust issues. Every Z has its merits but the Z32 is a great car. BTW--I have always maintained all my Z's--Never took them to a shop.

Hmm well this is my second Z32. The first Z32 was my first car.

However, since both of my Z's are 2+2 (but turboed) does that mean they aren't sports cars? lol

thats a good one, ti is rear wheel drive

the 2+2 is based ont he 2 seat Z so it's a sports car becasue ti's a stretched version foa sports car, kinda liek the ferrari mondail

and the pulsar is wrogn wheel drive and does have a backseat, I also had one, great little car, but slow and heavy

Plenty of sports cars..as for pure 2 seaters... 1st was an early RX-7 then a "Datsun by Nissan" 280zx..both my Z31 and Z32 were/are 2+2's..so are they not on the "official" sports car list since they have backseats?Loved that little rotary engine..as for my z's, gotta say the 280 was the most fun. The torque out of that str8 six was sweet. And handled like it was on rails. Plus the rx and the 280 beat the 300's to death on fuel mileage.

But, if I was looking for fuel mileage I would not have sporty anything.

Before owning a Z32 did you previously own any other model of Z or sports car, and to be clear a sports car is rear wheel drive, has only 2 seats, and only 2 doors

not sports cars: mustang, camaro, Probe, GTI, CRX, 240SX, WRX

are sports car: any model of Z car, corvette, miata, S2000, RX7
I'm guessing a 2003 Evo VIII isn't a sports car either? I'm not trying to be a douche, I really don't know... Lol car newb much?

I've only owned 3 cars, VW super beetle, 84 Celebrity Eurosport and then about 20 4x4 trucks until the Z. I must say, I should have picked one up a long time ago!

To make things fair I say the choices should be "affordable sports cars" since guys are throwing out M6's and cars over 50k. Hell, does the GTR count since it has a backseat and all wheel drive? Need to be more specific I think since a lot is up for interpretation.

IMO the Z has and always be the poor mans sports car, but with some tweaking it is one of the best for the money. Some call it a touring car, not a sports car. Yet it was named best sports car countless times and has a mark in history of it's impact.
