I would say get 2 batteries for your car. 1 for the Car 1 for the system... but that is just me... O and don't waste your money on a Cap. They are pointless and not necessary.

If your alternator can not supply enough power for your electrical system and charging one battery, it can not charge 2 batteries. The second battery is an additional load on the alternator. One high quality battery and a bad *** alternator is the way to go.

Well, yes and no. Inline it will add more drain and cause more problems. If you have an isolator from the charging system then the main battery would not be effected by deep-cycling the dedicated audio battery. Of course you will have to make it a point to drive around an give the alternator enough time to recharge the second battery.

Regardless of anything. A alternator that has enough power to support your system needs plus that of the vehicle itself is the only proper solution.

Optima has gone downhill a bit since the Johnson Controls acquisition. A lot of folks seem to really favor the Everstart brand from Wal-Mart.

I recently updated my alternator with one from a junked Quest. I believe it's 140 amp vs the stock one's 110 (if I recall correctly). It fit perfectly....well after a few minor mods and after a bit of a battle regarding who's the boss and just who is calling the shots around here. I also upgraded my battery to a limo battery (a good friend drives limos for a living so I got a GREAT deal if ya know what I mean ). After convincing it to fit with the assistance of a shoehorn, a rubber mallet, and a pneumatic jack hammer....I'm good to go. Even with all the crap I'm pushing. In fact, up 'til the other day I had a problem that if I went more than one day without starting the car, something in my install was killing my battery deader than a doornail. Rather than tracking it down and fixing the problem I took the lazy way out and just installed a switch/circuit breaker in my center console along the main 2 gauge power line. Problem solved right?. Well, sort of.

Absolutely even though they cost an arm and a leg...you know I'll have a Kinetik in my altima...haha...btw...I hate it when people say caps don't work...it's physics...they store energy and release it when nessesary..and I see mine work all the time...I have a voltmeter in my car...and before the cap...it dipped like crazy...with the cap...it doesn't dip as low...and I'm pushing over 1000watts. I'm using Tsunami 4guage wire and a Tsunami 5 farad cap. Also I've done upgraded ground to the motor and upgraded ground to the battery. 4 gauge all around. No more problems. Works great except for the whole blowing my subs last weekend

since a cap stores energy, (kinda like a battery does) why not buy a second battery?

Because it is so much more difficult to install a second battery. You need a new alternator and a few other components just to keep the battery charged. In non-comp installations it's more trouble than it's worth. But yes a battery is better than a cap. Just usually not as cost effective...or easy to install.
