I ran a 91 Miata battery for 4 years. Fit perfectly in the spot, and as long as I didn't leave the headlights on overnight, it had plenty of punch.

It did not fare well over the winter though. It got wicked cold this year, and I think it may have gotten as low as 20 below inside my attached garage, because spring rolled around and she wouldn't even begin to hold a charge. I now run an Optima Redtop in the trunk.

I have a Bosch Mega Power 44B19R. Small, slim and works great. I didn't run my car for about 2 weeks and now it won't hold a charge though. Before that, I never had an issue with it.

I think i am just going to follow Ian and just put an optima in the trunk. Not too much extra work to relocate it.

You should be fine, I have the old style Greddy VSPL, and the piping on the cold side is 2.5" IIRC. There should be enough room for a jump to 2.75.

Thats how I felt when I first swapped, but when it came time to get a new battery, (average life is 3-4 years MAX) I decided to clean up my engine bay a little. Optima batteries are head + shoulders above everything else, and they are sealed dry cell, so there is no need to run a box in the trunk. All you have to buy is a chunk of battery cable, a tie down, and a couple ends. I did the whole relocation for less than $200, including the $140 cost of the battery itself. I really liked the my engine bay is coming together, now that Ive removed and hidden all my accessory wiring. Now I just need to finish tucking all my vacuum lines, and removing the ABS.

+1 for the optima my car was down for most of the winter while i installed a new clutch sat up for 6 months, the day we went to start it no problems still holding 12-13 volts. If your worried about paying a lot for them go to your local interstate battery and pick up a BLEM nothing wrong with it just the case was scratched are something and they can't sell it as a new battery i payed 80 bucks after tax for mine and they normally go for 150 after taxes
