I'm new here and was wondering if you guys could help me out. I recently just bought a 240sx and the steering on it seems alittle mushy. When you go to make a turn you actually turn the wheel more then you would normally. I was wondering if it would be the ball joints going bad or do any of you guys have another idea as to why the steering feels that way? Thanks guys and sorry for being such a noob.

Jack up the front end of the car, grab one of the wheels and shake, side to side, up and down, while a friend watches whats loose. If you cant figure it out, bring it to a shop and have them inspect it.

Looseness in the steering could be many things, worn inner tie rods, worn outer tie rods, loose ball joints, oil soaked steering rack bushings, failing steering shaft isolator, or worn control arm bushings can all effect steering, even poor front end alignment can cause the car to drive and steer poorly. If you dont have experience inspecting all of these parts, than I would suggest bringing it to someone.

Thanks guys I'm gonna check the tie rods and if that's not the problem I guess I'll try what "FlatBlackIan" suggested. Hopefully I can figure it out. Thanks again guys.
