This morning i pulled apart my heater core and i was looking at the heat exchanger (radiator looking deal) and the thought crossed my mind if one could use it as an oil cooler? Now before anyone rips me a new a**, i actually already have an oil cooler on the way, so i dont intend on using it for that purpose. It was just a thought, but i dont have an oil cooler handy to compare the passage sizes. Just wanting to know if any one has done this? thought of this? guess it would bring new meaning to being a cheap a**

I wouldn't trust it with the pressure that the oil is under. I'd just grab something like THIS and not worry about any leaks.

not to be a d$@k but when you get your oil cooler in, compare it and ask yourself if you'd trust you expensive investment to some thing that was desighed for maybe 20-30psi or something that can handle upwards of 100-150psi? id rather over heat the oil than to even try and trust a heater core as a oil cooler. my 2 cents.

It would work fine if oil only ran at 10 - 15 psi.

But at cold oil pressure, you can get as high as 90 psi. This would most likely equal bad juju.

thanks for the input guys.like i said ive got an oil cooler coming in a month. my brother is hooking me up with the stock oil cooler off his starion that hes swapping a 4g into. i was just looking at it and the thought crossed my mind if it could be done. after dropping over 2 grand on my sr i have no intention of risking my engine over something like that.
