it really depends on the night you go, becuase its really hard to choose a time to run when there is noone thats going to be in the way or running in the opposite direction. its basically all luck of the draw, if people were more organized about it, maybe walkie talkies at the base of the mountain and at the top, then maybe we could be more efficient, but you know cops have a task force up there now so pretty soon gmr is going to be a thing of the past anywaysArticDragon192 wrote:Wow, drama lama, geez. **** like this kills the environment up there. Anyways, I'll give more input.
IMO canyons are available to anyone, but know what you're getting yourself into. If you're going to cruise, know that there will be people doing runs and such, so always be alert. I know whenevr I've gone driving I see cars coming down I make myself known and give the guys a bit of extra room. This is only when I'm making my way to the top.
Once I'm up there, I make sure no one is doing runs when I head down. That way the one people I see coming up are people aren't doing runs but rather making their way to the top.
I don't go to make fast times or any of that, but I don't go granny status up there either. Know people might come up behind you and that you might piss people off by driving slow.
However you should never exceed the limits of your car and your own driving abilities.
Oh, and going all out on the 2nd time out? WTF were you thinking? Sorry to hear you went through a lot of ****, but everyone crashes. Take it as a learning experience. Know that not everyone will be there to help you. Know the dangers that are existent up there. And most of all know your limits and the limits of your car.
that would be a good idean but all sides at gmr are further than 3 miles worth of road, i think baldy is the shortest and its like 11 or 12 miles... but yeah i work 10 to 7 tomorrow so i dont think i could go, plus i got a paper to write, but if it does rain in the next few days we should hit pancake (the parking lot we were at off of 38 where you almost hit the curb ) cuz it eats tires when its dry but its perfect when its wet, i spent like an hour up there when it was wet one and when i was done my tires were barely warm.spooled240 wrote:yeah that would be a good idea, 3 mile walkie talkies are pretty cheap now anyway like 50 bux.
btw, Mike: rod, alan, jared and I might go to el-mirage tomorrow permitting it doesn't rain out there. I'll give you a text later.
nah man I was scoring points..the closer you get to the curb = more points y0! hahaphanatikz32 wrote: but if it does rain in the next few days we should hit pancake (the parking lot we were at off of 38 where you almost hit the curb ) cuz it eats tires when its dry but its perfect when its wet, i spent like an hour up there when it was wet one and when i was done my tires were barely warm.
I've gone on different nights. You just gotta be smart about how you approach the area. I never said drive when there's no one there. Just make your way down when no one is doing uphill runs. People making their way up for the first time shouldn't be doing an all out/ timed run anyways.phanatikz32 wrote:

Normally people don't go down the backside unless they're with the group getting ready for the uphill run, or the road is free of people doing timed runs. People need to wait until the run group has come back up. On the way down, yeah, you'll see people coming up. But on the way back up, people need to realize that there's a run going on and that they need to wait.phanatikz32 wrote:thing is it seems now days everyone is running down and up on frontside, and sometimes cars come from around baldy or up the back end and down frontside after cars have gone down, and there is all ways the risk of someone coming up when you're on the down, with no communication you cant really get around that. i'm not saying run when there is nobody either, but it seems to me that a little organization could lead to a decrease in busts, crashes, and making things more efficient time wise also...
