Since this thread is comin back to life...lol

I got my first car when i turned 17, it was a 93' 325i that we got for 4k (dont hate it wasnt mint at all...lol) i paid about 1k and my parents paid the rest. i paid for gas and insurance and repairs (stupid leaky valve gasket killed 3 of my spark plugs... twice!..lol) I got my A/C in feb right before i turned 19. i traded my 325i (gave me a grand for it) i put down $1,250 and my rents matched it (my dad also co-signed) so altogether put 4k down with trade..I pay for everything on it, payments, gas, insurance, mods, maintenance you name it.

Ill be 20 in a couple months

Yikes, ones first car is not supposed to be nice, in fact it should be crappy and an adventure to keep running. Atleast that is what my dad told me.

Speaking of first cars, my first car was a 1989 Chevy Corsica hatchback. My Grandpop bought it new, but like 2 months after he got it he got a severe stroke and couldn't drive anymore, so it sat in his garage only to be driven like once a month for the next 7 or so years. Then when my dad needed a new car he took the Corsica, and then when I started driving when I was 16 my dad gave me the Corsica. I finally got the Altima coupe a little over a year ago when my dad needed a new car and since I had alot of money saved up my parents/grandparents helped me pay for the rest of it and then my dad got the Corsica back. Then in June some douche rear ended my dad, totalling the Corsica and then my dad got a new Jeep Grand Cherokee(10k off MSRP may I add, quite a deal).

So in other words, my first car had a quite eventful life.

But talk about terrible engineering. Everything on that car went bad except the transmission. The engine was replaced/rebuild at like 120k, alternator went bad several times, radiator was replaced twice, air conditioning system was redone, exhaust system, water pump you name it and it was probably broke. That was back when GM and all the numskulls in Detroit were building cars to break, since repairs/parts were so profitable. Boy did that strategy every backfire!!!

Not to mention cramming a 2.8L V6 into that tiny engine compartment wasn't exactly the smartest thing to do. Replacing the spark plugs and wires was quite an adventure as well as the radiator too.

LOL, you're all puppies! I bought (on my own) my first car at 18... a new 1972 Datsun 510! Which I traded a year later for a new 1973 240Z.

If you do the math, you'll see that I'm now 55. And still lovin a fun ride!

You're only as old as you act!

There she is....poor ol corsica!!!

And here is the guy who hit him. No real noticable damage outside the fascia and the headlights, but our mechanic was telling me that it might have to be totaled since there was some signifcant damage to the frame in the front. . .hahaha

Hey everybody, been reading threads for months now but I'm just starting to post. My first car was a pretty run down '94 Honda Accord Sedan M/T. I made the best of what I had tho. I put a new radio and projector headlights on it (original headlights were really crappy and foggy). That was going good until someone stole that and took my radio and projectors LOL. So after a long Summer of hard work, driving to and from work with no radio, my dad helped me get my A/C and I love it. I'm 20 years old and a junior in college and I work my a** off.

By the way, I won't be counted in that spoiled category cuz I can't remember the last time someone paid for something for me. If anything, I may have spoiled myself tho...

Also, all u guys seem really cool, and I can't wait to get some real nice mods done on my A/C. I'm kinda starting to wish I lived in SoCal after seeing the pics from that meet!

P.S. If anyone's talkin bout havin a meet somewhere in or around the Houston area, please let me kno!

Not over 50, only 27, but proud to say that ive never had a thing paid for by anyone else. i honestly cant figure out how all of these kids get their parents to pay for everything.im not saying that i wouldnt take it if it was handed to me either, but my parents are pretty well off and wouldnt buy me $hit except for on birthdays and christmas. i have had a fulltime job since i was 14, bought all of my cars and houses. i think you appreciate things more when you buy them yourself, as much as it sucks to go to a rich private school and see all of these kids riding around in hooked up new cars and i was driving a 10 year old, beat-up, primered station wagon. at least it was mine.

my parents bought my first car when i was 16, an 03 corolla. I didn't exactly take care of it. Last year when I was 20 I sold the car and bought the A/C myself. I love it and often walk into things because I am starring at my car when I walk away from it.

Wow, I really feel old. My first car was a 1952 Chevy. I've had many cars since then, all paid for by me. All but any new cars were also maintained by me. I guess when you grow up paying your own way, you don't feel like paying someone else to do what you can do your self. I have repaired, replaced or modified just about every part of those cars except for automatic transmissions. I sure makes one have a lot more respect for a car when it is their money.By the way, I am 63 and bought my 2008 A/C a couple weeks after it came out. Black on black, with all the options except the silly looking deflector on the roof. One other thing, don't think that because I am old, that I drive like it. I love to drive fast, especially through the curves. I don't think I will ever grow up when it comes to driving speeds.

My first car was suppose to be a 2005 Altima 2.5s. Then my mom wanted that car so my dad gave me half the money to buy a 99 Passat GLX with 62,000 miles for $3,500. That lasted a year or so then I had money saved up and I put 4 grand down on an A/C I pay $250 month for the payments and 600 for insurance
