This is a poll. Just answer it like exactly as the senario is stated.

2 bone stock 1995 240SX's line up. Both have good drivers in them. Both are on Street tires, it's a clear day, and it's 70f out with little or no wind. Assuming both cars would get good runs, no miss shifting, no bog launching, both good runs, who would win? The guy in the auto, or the guy in the manual.

If there is any other 'variable' in the post i've missed please tell me and i'll add it.Who would win the race?

dum poll IMHO, unless u dont understand the diff. between them technically, then i would understand... manual unless the driver sucks. auto is more consistant in the long run...but manual has less drivetrain loss...etc.

I understand the fundamental advantage to manual is that a good driver can change gears much faster than an automatic can.

not only doesa 5spd have less drivtrain loss, but a good driver can shift quicker and with more power than the average auto can

I think AZhitman explained in another thread what the determining factor would be: driver. a good driver who can operate his car at peak efficiency can take down a bad driver even if the bad driver has a better car. Are we talking strictly straight line races again? sigh... automobile races deserve corners and chicanes, IMHO.

Wow, who bumped this?

Stock for stock the manual will win.

Unless you are talking about turbo cars. When you involve a turbo, the auto car has the benefit of never having the throttle close. This means no loss of boost. Thats why the auto Supra TT is faster than the 6 speed.

Auto is heavier, has 4 long gears, more drivetrain loss.

Manual is lighter, has 5 short gears, and less drivetrain loss.
