When I got my car there was a crappy rampage deck and jensen speakers (grrrr) in it. I thought I was just going to be able to ignore it but I cant, after 3 days of having the the car I have to do somthing. I read in some other posts about the Eclipse decks and I might give one of them a shot. I need a place online to check prices of them, I cant seem to find one. Also the speakers in the front and rear are 61/2 right? What is some qaulity speakers to replace those with?

if you want people to tell you your speaker size, we need to know what kind of car you have (year).

The S13 fastback has 6x4 all around, the coupe has 6x4 in front and I think 6 1/2 in back. I don't know about the s14, not my car.

you can find every thing on ebay, sounddomain.com, or just do a search on retailers in your area

I'd say the best bang for your buck, especially if you want an mp3 deck would be the pioneer premier 540. You can get a closeout model at ikesound for like $250 or something. Its got pretty badass animations too. My boyfriend has the 740, and it rocks my socks , I plan to get a 540 soon as well.

Whats a quality brand for those? kicker has been my favorite for speakers but I dont know about 6 1/2s. there are Jensen ones in there now.

speakers are a little more complicated when choosing those. it all depends on what you want. components, 2 ways/3 ways. My Personal favorites would be JBL, Infinity, and Kenwood, but those are my prefrences

Well since everyone else has promoted Alpine headunits i'll go ahead and recommend their speakers. I have the 5.25" component set in my 90 240 and my roommate has the 6.5" components in his Talon. They sound great and get nice and loud with no distortion. From my personal experience I would say avoid anything by Pioneer or Kenwood. My friend is an installer at a shop that sells Alpine and Pioneer/Premier decks. They see about five Premiers come back with technical problems for every Alpine that comes back.

cool, thanx for all the input and the idea. im thinking about kicker 6.5's =) but my brother had infinity put in his and they were nice. I know I dont want an alpine deck tho, im trying to be too cheap on it, the only two alpines i like are in the 400s. I am looking at a couple panisonics that play mp3's any words on those? but other then that it will be pioneer or eclipse if i can get prices on those. I know i want the mp3 feature.

Ok first with your CD deck, it's really personal preference, which ever one you will like looking at all of the time. All manufacturers are giving all of there units enough power nowadays and it depends on if you want satellite radio, and wether it XM or Sirius. Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, Eclipse, Panasonic, and Sony are all very good manufacturers. I personally would recommend Pioneer I have used all of the above metioned CD decks, and the best ones I have ever used are Pioneers, the looks are very nice, they aren't underpowered, good rca voltage which is good for hooking up external amps, they don't skip with heavy bass, and jolting suspension, and there prices retail are great.

As for speakers, just like goldollar said, it depends on what you want, if you aren't going to hook up an external amp to them, I would get some low wattage speakers, RMS wise, not peak. I personally would reccommend a nice set of 6.5 inch components in front,a set of 6.5 coaxials for the rear and a 4 channel amp to un them off of. Alpine, JL, JBL make some very nice coaxials and components. I use Kove KC euro 6.5's components in my 240 running each with 300 watts, http://www.koveaudio.com. I highly recommend Kove, but they don't come cheap. As for amplifiers, Alpine, JBL, Kenwood, Kove, Cadence, Massive Audio, there are many, Just figure if you can buy it at Walmart, autozone, or the fleamarket, you probably shouldn't get it.

Do some research, check out http://www.elitecaraudio.com you'll find more answers there, plus you might find something you like better.

Good luck.Eric

yeah MB Quarts are nice if your a big baller with big pockets. In his situation i think it would be better for him to go with more popular less expensive speakers

MB Quart's are just a name with a great reputation, they have great sound, but you could do a blindfold test with a couple other sets of components or coaxials, powered correctly, and I guarantee that you wouldn't be able to pick out a set of MB's. So dropping almost half a grand on a set of MB's probably wouldn't be best for him, unless he's planning on hi-class competition.

I'd say just goto Hi-Fi Buys, Circuit City or Best Buy, go listen at what all they have in their listening booths, and pick out what you like. Different speakers do work differently with different music, so take your CD book on in, and see what sounds the best with your music. Hi-Fi Buys is generally more exspensive, but they generally have high grade equipment, and know more than your BB or CC employees.

first off, Eclipse is the best brand of deck for SQ, but its also the ugliest looking. Alpine runs a close second in SQ and it looks great too (and play mp3s of course). Internal amps dont matter if your running a external amp (and you should)Quote »they don't skip with heavy bass,[/quote] I also dont know of ANY deck that skips when u have subs going, unless ur subs are placed inches from the deck for some reason. I also dont recommend upgrading the REAR speakers. For the driver or the passenger seat, no matter what rear speakers u have, they mess up the SQ for the car and get drowned out by the front. But if the people in the backseats listening experience is really important to you... I have the fade almost all the way to the front. (s13s dont even tell me u want rears 2, no one can fit back there)I run JL XR 570 coaxials with a 600 watt kenwood amp and its great sounding, better then my friends amp powered focals at least.

decks, yes, pioneer are great, but since we're all giving our opinions, then I say Alpine. I'd like a new Denon deck too, but that is way WAY out of normal people's price range. Hard to find, too.

Thanx for all the ideas, im just gonna do the door panels speakers probly for now. I have a pair of 12" kicker comp vr 12's i could put in there for subs, but i dont want to buy an amp. also ide have to run the amp wires and it would add wieght. =) Oh ya is it pretty easy to change out the door speakers yourself? Cuase basically i want to put the deck and everything in myself.

Every mag I read (even Crutchfiled or whatever the hell it is) says that Pioneer models 9000 and Premier 900 and up are the best headunits out there, nothing comes close. The only real competitor is Alpine, Eclipse was rated like 4th.

hey fourshort,

MB Quart and Kove are both make good components, but don't exclude Focal, CDT, or Soundstream for that matter...

I have CDT's, although I don't have them installed yet, I bought them because I read multiple good reviews about them, and that their components put out more midbass than they have ever heard out of any components. You can find em' on ebay for a decent price.

Focal's are obviously one of the best brands, and if you can afford them, get the Polykevlar series, or for some more $$ get the Utopia's.

last but not least, Soundstream. I cannot say enough good things about these components. my buddy had 5.25" SPL50 components up front in his civic, running off deck power... they are 2 ohm speakers so they basically get double the amount of power that regular speakers get, and twice as loud... these things pound, and you won't be dissapointed... you can find some on ebay for under $150 USD, and i'm actually going to pick up a set to use as rear fills once i get more money...

just some more non-mainstream brands for thought, if you can't afford the coves... IMHO stay away from MB Quart because everybody and their brother has a set of these things :pface

man i didn't even know we had a Car Audio/Entertainment/Security forum, damn you learn something new everyday. And in my opinion i think Alpine make the best head units, and i think thier head units are better in quality, appearence, price, and features, than the Eclipse head units. but that just my .02 cents

s14, i dont know what you been reading but check out http://www.sounddomain.com for some info.Theres a million of these: http://forum.sounddomain.com/f...09635 that state Pioneer NOT THE BEST in SQ. Im assuming you own a pioneer, dont let it bias your opinion. I own neither ( i have a panasonic) so i have a unbiased outlook ;)
