Hey guys, as some of you may know back in august the third/fourth gear shift fork snapped and broke off rendering the transmission useless, not to mention the wierd hybrid no one knew what i had.

Anyways, i picked up an RB20DET transmission from JGY customs for 395 and it shipped and got here the same week, which im pleased with, but "I THINK" i may have a problem on my hands. The packaging left a bit to be desired but i think its decent, when i unpacked it, i noticed the shifter was out of the transmission which was good, but when i put dropped the shifter in with no c clamps, i can ONLY shift into first, and second gear, I tried rotating the input shaft to see if the gears were just snagged, but still no go. Am i just paranoid and i need to install it and give it a try....Or should i assume something like the SHIFTER FORK IN THIS ONE is broken.

Call up Jason.Ask him whats up with it.

Umm I know my transmission would shift into and out of all the gear when it was out of the car.(I swear I wasn't making any engine noises while I was doing it. LOL)

I really wouldn't put it in the car.

I called them up and the guy at the phone said, he shifted through all gears before he shipped it out. He said if any damage happened, it would've had to been during shipping with UPS and that it has happened recently to other customers. So then he told me to go ahead and get some fluids in it and just try it out and see if it loosens up. Im going to do that, but before i do, i might as well take it up to work and have the master technician in service look at it::Nissan:: since i work there.

I've taken the shifter plate off, and took a look inside to see if it was debris causing the shifter not to move, and it isnt.

I stick the shifter into first and second which it has no problems going into, and then, once i've got it in, i try to move either the input or output shafts, it doesnt move at all.

I cant move the lever to reverse, fifth, fourth, or third, and it wont even let me move it sideways in the middle of fifth and reverse...

Yes, its all properly put together.

I added some oil and held it a slight angle to keep it from leaking out the back, and i put a burnt up clutch on the input shaft to get it to spin at a decent speed.

IHere is an illustration of where i can and can't move the shift lever and its properly seated, lubed and in the right spot.

you gotta put the clutch in silly!

j/k. sorry.. I'm sure you're not in the mood for jokes.

It shouldn't be too hard to find a couple of C clamps and get that shifter set in there properly. When you do that.. if it still doesn't shift.. I would ask for another trans or an insurance payout from UPS or whatever the dude from JGY says you have to do.

Quick question???

Since the shifter was not in the transmission. How is it that UPS damaged the anything inside the transmission???

The only thing I could see is if something up up in the bellhousing and BLASTED the input shaft.Don't know what kind of damage that would do, but...... I doubt it would cause the problem you have.

But the easiest thing would be to get your $$ back from UPS. How much did they insure it for?You might even make a little more back. But it they didn't put enough to cover every penny you spent with them.

Get up in JGY's ***.They've tried to pull some BS with us twice before.

The shifter has all the proper C-clamps, and even if it didnt, it is still all the way down in there and would STILL move to the right side of the pattern, but it doesnt. There are two nice gashes...or scratches that look clean on the top of the transmission on the rear casing.

Trying to get money out of UPS is like trying to drive a car across the ocean.

Im going to figure out what the deal is here in a few hours, ill keep it posted.

From my experiences with JGY in the past and many others also, I would not even come close to trying to squeeze money out of the shipper (UPS in your case). JGY is like an SSAutochrome in my book, except they charge way more for stuff that doesn't work at all. Also like the SSA group, good luck getting a refund or replacement from JGY.

Heeeeeeeeeeeellllllllll yeah!

I fixed it and it goes into all gears thanks to a friend off a local forum, he gave me a tip and i tried it out.

Basically i took the front cover off on the inside of the bellhousing and the three rods that poke out when you shift was stuck. The first and second gear rod was poking out half an inch or so... maybe not even that much. I lightly tapped it about 2-3 mm's and then it recedec into place with a "not braking" click sound.

Put it into first, then to second and it popped out again and tapped it back, then put it in neutral, then went 1st 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, back to neutral, and then to reverse, several times perfectly, i am so pumped, ill have my **** back in and running this weekend.

Thank you guys for your efforts and tips.

What do you think caused that? was it dropped on the bell housing by UPS?

well i just assumed my transmission did that due to a rough *** ride half way across the USA.... so i just told him how i fixed my issue and shazaaaaam! thats the only thing i could think of is a rough *** ride...and they probably had the transmission bellhousing side down for a while at the shop..

Jesus christ learn to spell! lol!

Jfwy, yeah... sounds like either A. the shift forks are broken or its trying to be in more than one gear at a time, take off the front cover inside the bellhousing and then tap the rods that come out till they're all even.

Well.... You guys wont believe this, and i feel somewhat stupid at the moment, but... JGY customs sent me a KA transmission.

The reason i know this is, because i have my OLD ka24de transmission off my old engine, andits been sitting around... So i finnally get my clutch and flywheel in, and we assemble it all and get to sliding the transmission JGY CUSTOMS sent me, "RB20DET" and we notice that the bolt holes dont line up at all and the dowel pin that sticks out off the block to line up the transmission doesnt go in either.

So not only did they send it to me with a leaking front cover and it not going into any gears than first and second, and MYSELF fixing it and re-sealing the leak, its the ****ing wrong thing. So i guess theres more down time to be had.

Just when i was getting progress. I WILL have a ****ing correct transmission from them, ill let you guys know what happens with this.

Kansei,That is... well, unbelievable. So far there is only one person that I know of who has had good luck with them, and he is a local guy with an NX2000. That is pretty appalling. It speaks wonders for their business practices and and how they operate / feel about customers. I was browsing their site, just for a laugh, and saw that they do in fact have used RB25DET transmissions.. for $1700.00 ! and a used Z32 MAF for $299.00! Ludicrous I say! I can only imagine what the quality of the welds on their mounts are like! I sincerely hope this gets resolved nice and peacefully.

Damn.....

Call Jason and get up his @ss!!!!They just sold you a $400 KA transmission.Did you have a RB transmission before??

If so, get your $$ back from JGY and go to the Junkyard and get a KA transmission and swap the bellhousings.

Double check the procedure before you call them though.
