Racism is alive and well in rural east Tennessee. My niece is mixed and she had it rough right from the get go. She was very hyper, always into s***, curious. She came home one day from preschool, crying. Her mom asked her what was wrong. She told her that she had to sit in the corner. When her mom asked her why, she told her, "Miss ____ said I had to sit in the corner. She said I was bad because of my color." The "n" word has been slung in her face more than a few times. There were times when she would just vent out and rage that it wasn't fair that my daughter was white and had lots of friends and all people ever did to her was tell her how much of a loser she was and that she never fit in. It scarred her for life and she'll continue to deal with it until she gets out of that place. Racism will never leave there. It's sad.

The funny thing is racist don't wear a ID tag or a scarlet letter on their chest. They have to open their mouths or show through their actions how they feel about people of a different race. This thread was started over a news story, where people were saying some blatantly racist stuff. Why bring up "alleged" racism?

Sure it still goes on, people are ignorant. Being racist in most aspects isn't illegal so they can do what they want with free speech and all. It's also a 2-way street with one lane usually ignored.

i dont let racist ranting kill my day,i do think it is just silly at the most basic level.
we have better things to do than worry about the color of a mans skin.we should be worried about when our soldiers get home and what will the economy do to effect us and what will gas prices be like because our jobs might be at stake.
being a _____ american should not be as much of a concern because in the end we are americans.

People still have the confederate flag laminated on their rear window on their trucks. They say its the culture. What culture? Beer drinkin white trash, muddin, having sex with your mom and sister, and of course racism? That's the only culture I see. They show it to represent the way white people dominated the early US by putting everyone of different race below them. The war is over people, go die!

the way i see it is that by showing off your rebel flag you are still rooting for a team that lost and than got disbanded.

I see what you are saying but I have absolutely no reason to believe that. Everyone, and I mean EVERYF***INGBODY that I know who mentions the confederate flag is a racist, primarily and obviously against black people including others. I can absolutely honestly say that I have not met one person that rocks the flag to represent anything else. It has grown into a statement that indirectly tells people white power and means nothing less.

I'm from Miami which is supposedly a melting pot of cultures and different people yet I think this is the most racist place I know of. Segregation still exists here it's just covered by a thin veil. Blacks have their own neighborhood, Hispanics have their own and so do whites. Same goes with schools. I live in a Hispanic community down here and they all hate everyone. Cubans hate central Americans and Puerto ricans. Puerto ricans hate Cubans. central Americans hate anyone that's not from their own country in central America. I am considered a white Cuban down here and central Americans call me white trash, white boy, gringo and so on. Yet I'm not Anglo Saxon but they hate on anyone that's not brown.

Racist is stupid for many reasons. I love living in Miami for the many different types of gorgeous women that live here. From white to black to cinnamon brown skin Miami has it all. People who are against racial mingling and only stick to their own are missing out. Better for me
