A couple speeding tickets, a "Following too closely", and an aggrivated speeding ticket, rising gas prices, and a couple mortgages, and the gas pedal no longer "magically" goes to the floor.

Rob, I am sure you are much more anxious to get the Q back, than we are to listen to the soundtrack.

Well a 15% higher diff ratio means 15% more rpm at the same speed. I was never referring to acceleration mpg which is a variable.

Just assuming you hold the same highway speed the consumption on the highway will be 15% more per hour/min/week.

Agree the city mileage hit may or may not be 15% probably half that depending on how frisky you are. Lets say that city and highway combined might be only 9-10-11%.

I have averaged 19.1 mpg over the last 14 years [13,822 gallons to date give or take 1 haven't filled up today]........seems to be getting a little worse this year with local gasoline changes. That would have been 1,617 gallons more.........just $2,300 more gasoline from day one. The average price of gasoline consumed since June 1990 was $1.42............far below the current $2.15Let's say 2 mpg mixed drop.

The Audi S8 [4.2 liter] of a few years ago showed this vividly when they bumped the diff ratio to improve zero to 60, they lost 2 mpg combined.

Dennis, that is why I hesitate to do the swap. I would love better 0 to 60, and 70 to 120 times, but don't really want to take the hit on mileage.

I have put 101,000 miles on my car, in the last 2 years. at an average of 19.1 MPG, that would be 5,290 gallons, or roughly 2800 gallons per year. Roughly $6,000.00 per year, in gas at today's rate.

A 10 % hit would only be $600.00 per year, or $10 per week. A little over $1.50 per day, or $.07 per hour

Let's say I do the swap, and keep the car for 2 more years. That adds another $900.00 to the equation for the new rear-end, or $.05 per hour.

Let's also figure a 10% increase in gas prices, every quarter. This comes out to roughly a $1,550.00 total hit, over the 24 month period for the gas, and $900 for the swap. I would have to add at least one set of tires, to the equation, at $750.00

Now I am looking at a total 24 month cost of $3,200.00, or $.1831501 per hour.

That is about the average wage of a skilled laborer, in some 3rd world countries.

Ithought of that, but then would have to calculate a worse gas mileage, and possibly factor in a few speeding tickets, and maybe even a street racing ticket, and some jail time.

That throws the formula a curve, and not being a statititian, I will stop where I am.;)

I would prefer the kit be available in the 2.25" size, as well. FOr those who aren't interested in Forced Induction.

Can't wait to see the finished product, in stainess.

Jeff, the best size for the Datsun 510 a 1.6L, was 2 1/2" so you don't need forced induction to use this size. The only problem may be more noise than you would like.

Thanks, Chally, That's fine, I just didn't want to loos the little bit of back pressure the system has, an hurt the low-end torque any more.

Noise is not too much of an issue. A little more might be nice. Just no Mustang/Flowmaster sounds!!!

Dennis made a comment about loosing torque, if the exhaust was oversized. I have seen this on some race cars, in the past.

We would add mufflers, to get better response, out of corners. A lot of people thought we were mad, when we showed up to a short track, with mufflers on the race car. We never did and X-pipe, though. If I were still involved with it, and had readily available acces to the Dyno, I would definitely try it.

Yes, you are 100% right. My Q goes like a scalded cat, even with the original pipes on it, which are pretty small. To loose the low down take off would hurt more than getting a nice sound.I'd really like both... :D
