I know cordless suffer great disadvantage over corded ones. I would defintaly not get a cordless.. there scanning capabilites and speeds are greatly reduced to save battery power. I am thinking of going with the Escort 8500 X50 blue... this is supposed to be superior to other radars on the market.

I have a cheap Cobra..I can usually spot a cop at about the same time it goes off. It is useful for cops on foot clocking ppl and then radioing ahead though. I've read around and the Valentine 1 is supposed to be the best. Longest range, multiple bogie, radar direction detection..I'm savin up for it :)

there si like this phone company that makes one that is pretty good for how much it costs. "uniden" and the cobra model detects cops like over hills and ****. that is far away.

Save up and get a Valentine 1 - you WON'T be sorry. Plus, if you ever get a ticket with a Valentine in the car, send it off to them and it'll be paid for you. That's how certain they are about their ability to detect radar.

If it's legal in your area, or if you're good at hiding it, you can also pick up a radar jammer from the same company... I forget exactly what it's called... maybe the Phazer? Anyways, the 2 of those combined would make you pretty much invisible to radar, as well as being able to detect it from about 4 miles away.

My friend has a Z06 and runs a Valentine 1, scanner, and CB. Looks like something outta the Players run, but he's never never been pulled over. In my last car I had a scanner which worked well for me. My friend loves his Valentine though. Aparently you can get it upgraded for free. Can't beat that.

I have the Escort 8500. I used to work at a place that sold em so I got a good deal :) I swear by mine. Like the valentine 1, it has the capibility to be updated. I would discourage you from getting the cordless version, as the range/scanning is reduced to save batt life (i think that was already said..). I think retail is $299. I dont think you can beat it for the price. They also have plugins like the "shifter" and "ZR2". Both of these items COMPLETELY defeat laser. Hope this helps. http://www.radartest.com

^ i use the escort passport solo II the cordless version of the 8500. Works for me. You can also get the smart cord for it. It just looks so bling factor lol

in tests the escort passport and valentine 1 came up pretty close. The main diff is that the v1 shows the direction of the radar it detects etc. personally the v1 has a lot of goodies and i would have probably got that instead of the escort.

I've been running the Uniden that I got for my 18th birthday ever since (9 years)...so it was not great to begin with and now it's 9 years old, I may replace it soon but it's saved me more times than I can even count, but I have gotten two tickets in those 9 years. Last year I added a CB and that's the most effective anti-ticket tool when you're on the highway. I always know the position of every cop for at least 50 miles in either direction, and constantly updated.

im using a radio shack one that my dad stoped using when he got his bmw because it got in the way of his radio. iv been using it off and on for a while cuz he doesnt want me to have one. i go by cops all the time and it hardly ever goes off, i dont know if they dont have there radar on because they are in the city or what, but untill i get one i can rely on, im keeping it no more than 5 over (just got a warning for 15 over, im unbeleveably lucky, lol)

You could do what I did, I mounted mine above the rearview mirror. The power wire disappears under the plastic trim panel at the front of the headliner. Underneath it runs over to the passenger doorway, down under the trim panel on the edge of the door jamb, and then up under the dash where it's hard-wired.

I've got a Cobra 9 band, it picks up automatic doors great! The thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't give an audilble alarm all the time. Sometimes it only gives out the visual, which really sucks. It hasn't let me down yet, you get what you pay for.

i think ima get the v1 and mount it under my radio, that way u cant see it at all, just hear it and ill have a switch somewhere to turn it off, think hiding it like that will make it loose detection ranges?

Yes, it inhibits detection capability. You are supposed to mount it with a good line of sight though the windsheild and the rear window for best results.

Yeah, you'll get front or rear but not both. I have V1. It is the best. I have it mounted the same way as cls12vg30. My buddy has one in his 350z, and he has to mount it low on the windshield cause up high it can't see out the back. True story...my buddy asked me for advice on detectors. Of course I gave him a 5 minute speech on why he should choose a V1. He said "cool, I'll buy one." But he waited. A week after that conversation, he got ticketed. The moral, then, is that if you're going to buy one, why wait? Once you see the flashing lights, it is too late. You can't tell the officer to keep the ticket cause you meant to get one. My buddy got a V1 right after the ticket, but he'd have more cash and a better driving record if he had just bought it a week sooner.

Yeah a CB Radio. The truckers on Channel 19 pass the word up and down the road about all speed traps, traffic tie-ups, etc.

Valentine sells a remote install kit for their radar detectors that comes with receivers that you mount at the front and rear, you can even put it in the grille I think. Then you can mount the display somewhere inconspicuous.

Actually I think there's a cost to upgrade to the newest version, but it's alot cheaper than just buying a new one.

He'll also get zero lazer protection.
