Actually the remote kit just plugs into the actual main detector. It makes the detector go completely blank, and the remote display lights up. It's main pupose is to keep it from being visible from the outside, so ppl won't tailgate you or whatnot and leech off your detection. Last time I checked I didn't see any detectors that you could mount on the exterior.

Dont know if this was said. The detectors work better the lower they are on the windshield. If you get any detectors at all get a good one. Cops now have their own little jammers that confuse the detector into not giving a signal. Get a Jammer, (phazor is the name) those work great. Look on E-bay, great detectors for pretty cheap.

V1 and Escort 8500 perform almost identical, but the 8500 is $70-100 cheaper... ill go with 8500.

if you wan a really inconspicuous radar detector. go poke around in a junk yard looking for a 89-92 mazda MX6. alot of them came stock with factory radar detectors that had grill mounted sensors. just get all the wiring and i am sure you could wire it up in any car. i have seen countless MX6's with them from my Probe/MX6 community days, and they work awsome to boot.
