No real facts here, but most I've read has been along the lines of "it's cheaper to sell your N/A and buy a TT car then Turbo an N/A car". But for the most part that was TT, not a single. I'm sure more will weigh in shortly.

What would your budget be for said upgrade?

it would be cheaper to get a different car than to do the full motor swap but they way I read it he wants to turbo the N/A motor, in the Z31's it has been done with great success, the boost is limited a bit by the highewr comnpression but you have a motor that spools up more quickly, as for single turbo on the VG30DE block, I am not sure about the manifolds unless your up to a lot of custom fab, I think it's be easier to just use the OE twin set up on the N/A block, be sure to keep it cool, a standalone would be a really really good idea! unless your mechanically impared I say go for it, if however your are relegated to writing checks you'll want to keep on walking

It's difficult because of all the vacum lines and the crampness of the engine bay. But my bf never swapped an engine in his life and he managed this:zerothread?id=109675

We also met a guy at the CarV2 East Coast Z Club meet in April who turbocharged his n/a. Can't remember if it was TT or not...but its doable.

Have you actually called your insurance company? My insurance is exactly the same on my 1984 NA and 1984 T.

I think they look at the car model and not the particular trim level (turbo vs NA, XE vs SE etc.) I have found in my old age that insurance sucks no matter what car I am insuring and the cost seems to vary little

well.. either way i can still get a n/a Z for about 3-5k... compared to a 13k tt... so id rather get n/a and eventually drop a tt in it.

The swap can be done, but its a pita. As for single turbo setup, it has been done as well but is in no way worth the money or custom fabbing necessary to make it work on a Z32 as you can get the same power and more quickly from a TT setup.

Anyways, if you decide to go the NA ---> TT route feel free to post up any questions that you may have. Chances are either myself or someone else will be able to help you out

ok cool thanks nsrz32.. i guess my next question is, is it worth dumping a 240 for a z32? its just everyone is starting to get 240's... so i thought id try and go z32.. i dont see hardly any around here..

I guess the math works for the swap, I can't help being a cheapskate, my car was 1K my turbo donor car was $350 and I am having trouble justifying the extra 1k it'll take to get my car to run 11's

I don't think there's much of a comparison between the 240 and the z32. I mean the 240 is a great car but just not a Z.

Z32 = sports car240 = sporty car

Ok, little things about a TT swap. I have my knoweldge about this then again my n/a is almost a tt. First off the na wiring harness and ecu can be used with a tt motor as long as you have a boost controller. The na transmission is identical internally and externally to a tt transmission except for the inside of the bellhousing though with a grinder youll be good to go. So if your front clip is already comming without intercoolers why get a front clip? Now parts you will need heres a quick run down. Intercoolers, intercooler piping, bov's, boost controller, boost gauge, tt clutch and possibly flywheel, tt radiator, tt exhaust from the downpipes to the cats, timming belt, good idea to replace the knock sensor just to do it, then your basic fluids and spare hoses and crap. Its an expensive project but can be done faily cheap if you know what you're doing. Heres a website for you http://www.ashspecz.com now check out his n/a to tt converion.

if you are a pro level fabricator a big single turbo would be nice on the z32. jun has a nice big single z32. the plenum is just a snorkel so the car would be a lot easier to work on.

i ment the motorset im getting comes without intercooler(s) not sure if theres 2?? but i was just curious what all i would need to get it running just getting a motorset.. i know if you get a sr motorset or ca or rb you need an ignitor chip to get it to crank.. little things like that. not sure if its the same thing with the z32. im just looking for sites on the internet that can answer my questions right now, im really looking for a site that has done a n/a to a tt before so it has steps and tips and such.. thanks guys you all are making me hate 240's now.

i used to be a z32 guy. then i got sick of reaching my hands into all those crazy spots. now im a s13 guy. almost anything on an s13 i can pickup by myself. i can do most stuff without getting on a lift. just easier for me. i may not always work at a dealership and im NOT paying someone else to work on my car.

yeah, the crampness of the bay is the ONLY thing giving me second thoughts.. and the fact that my cousins sr just ran a 13.9 with a complete stock setup (even a KA diff) and running 11 pounds.. but the Z is still calling me.

There is just something about a Z32 no 240sx can ever compare to. No im not bashing seriously ive owned two 240sx's and one 300zx the Z is just something special its a Z. When you own one its like becomming a member of a secret society (seriously we have one that few Z owners know about) its just special. The TT swap is hard and really not worth it at all though yet my car is being converted right now. Its all in what you want though. By the way the Z32 isnt that hard to work on (generally helps to have a spyder monkey though) its just looking at what you're doing and taking it one step at a time.

Yo, if your going to finance for a 300zx just start with a turbo z.Yea the insurence may be highter, but the cost to swap a tt z will be more.unlike your inline 4 the 300zx is not a mechanic friendly car.simple things like swaping headers are kind of a pain in the neck.If you al ready have a good mechanic (your self or some one else with a lift)he will quickly become a good friend.I have herd some wild quotes for the TT swap by reputable shops.1-Pop the extra change for a frunt clip, so you can lable every thing befor you disconnect them.2- I there are mechanics who will do it for less then a G. (It's not rocket science.)3- Frunt mount intercooler kit.4- Allott of patience.

Id explain all my theories on this swap in here but if you want to know what I think IM me cause ive had almost three years to debate every angle of this which isnt as much as some people but I dont feel like explaining everything in here. Go serch http://www.zcar.com or http://www.twinturbo.net and youll receive all the answeres you ever need.

Fallen180sx:

All the info needed for a swap lies within the faqs @ twinturbo.com, Z1motorsports, and Twin Turbo Z's of Dallas.

Honestly, unless you hate yourself, you MUST get a front clip to do a n/a--->TT swap. It's a waste of time to try to piece together the engine/transmission/intercoolers/ etc. And if you get a front clip try to get a USDM one, because there's less trouble involved and they ship in better condition than the JDM clips do (although JDM clips are nice because they are typically lower mileage).

I own a S13 and i get to drive the Z32 every once in a while, like NSRZ32 said, there's a BIG difference. Namely, the fit and finish and the features (besides the obvious power). The S13 is a bare bones sporty coupe w/ lots of potential and is cheaper to maintain. Z32's require a deep pocket/coupled with saving up a lot to get parts. You get a "supercar" then Nissan (and other aftermarket companies) will charge you supercar prices. So be prepared to be your own 24/7 mechanic. .. the good thing about it being a Nissan is that is more reliable than say, a Italian supercar. If you aren't too good working on cars, etc, i say keep the 240 and learn to do stuff on it before you decide to do a 180 and buy something that's more than you can handle budget-wise and time-wise.
