About once I year I play through again. Game came out 11 years ago, it's still my favorite game of all time. The whole Midgar part is so fun, and still gives me such a nostalgic feeling. After you get out of Midgar, it's sort of bittersweet, but its good to know there is still so much of the game ahead. It's the smoothest playing RPG, had the best graphics at the time, incredible cinematics, amazing story, and it was the perfect length. The only game that would get a perfect 10 in my book.

I havent had the chance to play through Panzor Dragoon yet. I've wanted to for a long time. My buddy was supposed to let me borrow it a while ago, I should bother him for it again.

One of my friends is a huge FFVII fanatic.

I could never get into FF games enough to play them very long. Yahtzee said it best when he compared the gameplay to combining aspects of your favorite spreadsheet software with your TV's setup menu. I'm just not a fan.

The storylines are usually great, though, and I've always liked the various visual and aural stylings. I just can't get past the gameplay to enjoy the rest. Not that I strongly dislike it, but it fails to hold my attention.

The new FFVII prequel game for the PSP coming out next week looks like it might be fun, though.

I've always wanted to try the original Panzer Dragoon.

I got into a phase of playing old games, well at least buying them. Then when I went to play, they didn't seem as good as they use to be, plus they were slow as he!!. I decided to get rid of them. They were much better the first time around.

Just so you know, the "original" Panzer Dragoon is not an RPG, it's a shooter. There's Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon Zwei, both of which are rails-type Starfox-style shmups for the Saturn.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is the RPG.

Anyway, I play through FFVII every couple years, and I still have my original crazy 200++ hr save with all the incredibly high level materia.

Did anyone else ever get Knights of the Round to do 9999 on every hit? I spent forever leveling up "Magic Plus" materia to be able to do that.

Anyway, one of my favorite games, I still think the Materia system is superior to all these "job" systems, as you can make any character anything just by equipping items, and you don't ever have to choose a path for someone that can't be reversed.

As much as I liked FFVII though, I liked Xenogears more! Storyline ftw.

Yep, yep. The shooter's the one I mean. I always thought it looked fun when I was a kid, but I never had a Saturn.

Hmmm, there's another reason to buy myself a Saturn now...

I cant remember if I did or not. If you want to do a TON of damage every turn with KotR, there is an easy way. Put a Quadra Magic and W-Summon materia in two linked slots and then KotR and your magic plus in another. That will let you cast 8 KotR's in one turn. Easy way to inflict major damage on anything. That's almost 80000 HP. The only downside is having to watch the long *** animation.

Yeah, I know that trick, that's how I killed Emerald Weapon.

My KoTR inflicts about 130,000 (9999 x 13 hits) per individual casting though, so 8 castings of it would be well over a million HP.

the only difference with ruby weapon is that you have to make sure you have a Ribbon

Yeah, the first time I used the Mimic with KoTR, that worked fine too.

For Ruby weapon, you not only need a Ribbon but also, generally, the Mystile Armlet and it's 50% evasion rate to avoid the repeated castings of Ultima.

You only have 1 party member to fight Ruby IIRC, the other two get sucked into the sand and you have to trial and error until it's Cloud (or whoever has ribbon + mystile + KoTR stuff) who remains.

Gawd, I mean I played the game last year but I haven't fought either of the weapons since like 1999. I'm amazed I still remember any of this, but some of it is almost certainly erroneous.

Does anyone else fanatically grind on the limit breaks so that they already have Meteorain before they leave Midgar? I almost always did.

This past time I played through I was getting all the limit breaks way early. I made a point of getting Aeris, Tifa, and Yuffie's Level 4's because I had never seen them before.

+1 lol EVERY TIME!!!

My I could never spend enough time getting my KotR up to that level though. However my buddy who ate breathed and **** FFVII did.

He wouldn't sleep at night to work on it.

Man now I'm gonna have to bring up my PS and play it again!!

They released an official soundtrack with all the music from the game. I have tabbed some out so I can play them on guitar.

I've only played it once, but it was the most memorable game I've played due to Aeris' death. She was the strongest member of my party when she died - I had devoted nearly all of the resources to her. It took me a long time to round out my party again after she was gone.

By the final battles, I had everything maxed out, full stats, the best equipment, multi-casted 9999 KOTR, etc. Beat Emerald Weapon, got too annoyed with Ruby and gave up on Ruby.

I've wanted to play it again, but don't own a PS anymore, and haven't bothered to obtain the PC version.

haha +1. I always went to that little island that had Cactor, used Manipulate on him then used his 1000 needles attack on everyone in my party. Limit Break comes up QUICK style

..and nobody needs to go out and buy a PS1. go get a PS3.. upscaling graphics FTW

The failure rate on early XBox 360s and early PS1s and PS2s is probably about the same. MS makes decent electronics otherwise; can't say the same for Sony. The PS3 may turn out to be an anomaly, though.

Neither compare to Ninty in terms of hardware quality.

On the FF VII topic...thoughts on a possible remake for the PS3?? After seeing the tech demo, I was soo hooked to see a full remake! Then Advent Children came out...It sucks that FFXIII won't be out for another year

+1

Not even Omnislash could put a dent in a GBA, lol.

At any rate, I know the new (40GB) PS3's aren't backwards compatible with PS2 games, but do they play PS1 games?

The best way to play anything, if applicable, is always to emulate. I've never used a PC PS1 emulator, but I play all my N64 stuff emulated. I own like 140 N64 carts, but I haven't played them in ages. Nothing can compare to 1600x1200 4xAA 60fps. Hell, some of the ROMs even have fully remapped textures (SM64, OoT).

You can play Playstation games on Playstation II and save as long as you have a Playstation memory card.
