take it out of the screen enclosure, and gently clean with warm water and a degreaser like simple green, or kn filter cleaner. let it dry completely. the foam filters should be oiled with a tackier oil than the gauze filters like kn's, so if you can find monster flow oil, true flow oil, or actual hks filter oil then go with those, if you cant source any, you can use some kn oil but keep it light (the foam filter doesnt hold the oil as well)..........................ill leave ursula mayes to finish.......

You're just suppose to replace it for a new one when it gets super dirty. Why spend $18 for a cleaner when you can just get a new replacement filter at superautobacs for $18.

because if u spend $18 on something that can clean the filter 20 times (just pulled a number out of my butt), til you buy 20 filters ur at $360. even if the kit only lasts twice thats still $18 or $36. now i have the filter recharging kit and have used it on all my after market filtered vehicles (4 total, 2 currently) for the past 2 years and it still as some in it

Yeah that is very true. But if you get a new one, you can choose a kool new color, you can choose from blue, purple, yellow, and the OG green. I got tired of looking at the green one so I got me a purple one

No offense, honestly, I like the money saving ideas when it comes to car stuff. But when it's trivial like $12. I mean, I drive my car for the summer only, by the time I need to replace my filter 20 times. I think I would have gotten over the fact that I paid a little more. All I do is unscrew the cage, and pop the new filter in!

But recycling is cool too..!

^^^ yup that is true. I just remembered, when I got my filter from phase2motortrend they told me not to oil it, and that the filters are a one time use.

I just bought a new filter for mine off eBay for $23 shipped. It was not oiled, and everything that I have seen points to the HKS SMFs being a dry filter.

And don't turn it inside out. There are 3 layers, and they are supposed to be in a certian order.

i dont know about the "mushroom" filters buti wouldn't trust those ebay cone ones. they are pretty much made of cardboard and meta. and when it gets wet the metal n the filter will rust out and get sucked into the motor. i've seen it happen to some local guys.

just get a decent cone filter and reuse that

HKS filters degrade pretty quickly after exposure to certain chemicals and extreme moisture. i would just replace the filter.

You're just supposed to buy a new one after it gets dirty, HKS makes replacements (in like 5 different colors!!!!).
