Tomei's Poncams are a direct replacement. no need for gears or adjustments. They are "drop in". Hence the prefix "Pon" which is like a onomatopoeia for a droping in sound. just throw them in and yell "Pon!"

As other have stated, supposedly, the difference between the "pon" and "pro" cams are that the "pon" cams are pre-indexed, meaning that the ideal cam timing is built in. This is probably assuming a completely stock motor that hasn't had the head or block re-surfaced, and is using a brand new timing belt with good tensioner. It's probably also assumming a lot of other variables as well.

IMHO I think it basically means that they don't NEED cam gears to the same extent that they are needed for the procams, but chances are that you could probably gain a couple of HP by putting the car on the dyno with adjustable gears and tuning it.

Chances are also good, that a couple or HP isn't really going to be worth the trouble and so the PonCams are basically drop in and don't need gears to see good gains from them.

here is the RB thread for dialing in cams. i was tired and skimmed through it last night so i'll have to read it again, but it was very detailed and its what i will use when i get cams for my car.

it also says what a piston stop is lol. that had me confused as well until i read the thread.
