You're from PA?
Haha... I hope you're not part of the group from PA that went "OUT-OF-BOUNDS" skiing and got lost last week!
We get this several times every year. People ski off the west face of the mountain so they can do some "tree skiing". Well, they don't realize the mountain gets wider as you go down... and they end up several MILES away from Killington. They always end up spending the night in the woods in sub-zero temperatures.
Most of them are smart enough to follow the stream that runs through the valley. It brings them down to a dirt road near my house. But this PA group wasn't even smart enough to do that! They decided to try and climb BACK up the mountain to "get a better view so they could find their way out"!
This happens at LEAST 8 to 12 times per year... a group will get lost in the woods from skiing out of bounds. There are signs EVERYWHERE warning them NOT to do it.
The problem has gotten so out of hand that Killington and the state of Vermont have started charging the idiots for the cost of the rescue operation. It usually involves a search helicopter and dozens of fire and rescue workers... so the price gets into the $10,000 to $50,000 range.
