We got Breck and Keystone on the same lift ticket. So you defintiely got those.
Yeah, they're both better than Vail IMO. Vail is more of a packaged boutique resort with a known name. The trails aren't better I don't think, and the place just seems small. You pass it pretty quick on the 70. I have a cousin that lives in Frisco, which is right next to Breck. They get season passes to a lot of places, but they never go to vail. Trust the locals.

There's getting to be good snow around here. I'm pretty sure most of the resorts are open...I don't ski as I hate the cold, but it's hard to live around the Wasatch Front without hearing about skiing ("Greatest Snow on Earth" and all that, you know...).

The company I work for has an annual ski trip where they fly everyone to Vail (from DC) and pay for us to stay/ski/whatever for a week, it pwns.

My Apache Recon's are in the mail;)

I haven't been to Killington in ages. I miss the place though, tree zones, Outer Limits, w00t.

You're from PA?

Haha... I hope you're not part of the group from PA that went "OUT-OF-BOUNDS" skiing and got lost last week!

We get this several times every year. People ski off the west face of the mountain so they can do some "tree skiing". Well, they don't realize the mountain gets wider as you go down... and they end up several MILES away from Killington. They always end up spending the night in the woods in sub-zero temperatures.

Most of them are smart enough to follow the stream that runs through the valley. It brings them down to a dirt road near my house. But this PA group wasn't even smart enough to do that! They decided to try and climb BACK up the mountain to "get a better view so they could find their way out"!

This happens at LEAST 8 to 12 times per year... a group will get lost in the woods from skiing out of bounds. There are signs EVERYWHERE warning them NOT to do it.

The problem has gotten so out of hand that Killington and the state of Vermont have started charging the idiots for the cost of the rescue operation. It usually involves a search helicopter and dozens of fire and rescue workers... so the price gets into the $10,000 to $50,000 range.

You guys gotta STOP! I really want to go back to Colorado again. I went March of this year for spring break and it was the best i've ever seen. We stayed at breckenridge but also went to vail, keystone and arapahoe basin. I might go again this year if I can find some people, it's expensive to go with just a couple.

I was planning on taking just me and my girl to killington, vt this year instead because i could drive there. Saves on plane and rental car $$.

Probably be able to go in about 3 weeks. After holiday rates go away. Mtns here have only had a total of about a foot of natural snow, but plenty of man-made.

And to me skiing and snowboarding are really different. I skied for about 4-5 years (including instructing skiing), and then tried snowboarding. They are opposites. Snowboarding is easier to pick up the basics, but then harder to advance after that. Skiing is hard to learn basics, but then easy to get better.

I just got back and it was awesome....little chilly(high of 18) but it was nice skiing. It got a little icy later in the day, but it was actually decent skiing. My new atomics are awesome.

Well Snowshoe twice, but I went the day it opened, and it was 40 degrees and raining the entire time, they even had to shut down the lifts for like an hour and a half because of lightning =P Went one week afterwards too, but everything was ice, there hasn't been consistent enough snow to be decent, but the local Kroger was running a deal where you bought two 12 packs of Coke and get a free lift ticket sooooooooo no complaining here. I'll probably spend most of my time at Winterplace because its only 45 minutes to an hour from school and just hit up the good places on the weekends.

Um.... dude... they don't shave ice to make fake snow.

They use water and EXTREMELY HIGH PRESSURE compressed air. This vaporizes the water as it blasts out of the guns (kinda like a HUGE nitrous fogger).... and in the sub-freezing air.... it turns to the white fluffy stuff!

Oh... and with a couple of you guys talking about coming to Killington.... I say we start the first ever "WINTER NICO MEET ON THE MOUNTAIN!!!"

Filet Mignon and lobsters on me... we'll have a big 'ol redneck-style pallet fire party at night, skiing at Killington, and ice drags on Lake Bomoseen!!

My brother threw a suprise ski trip to Mad River, Ohio. We'll see if he can get it off work though. What's y'alls opinions of the best ski resort in the midwest? I'm looking at < 4 hours from Indy.

I'm actually going to be living like 40 miles from there in a few weeks. I think I'm getting a season pass for Mad River, so I have something to do. When are you guys going? I also heard thats the best place to ski in Ohio.

Well... I haven't posted all day because I was skiing there. My brother woke up up at 10 today asking me if I wanted to go. I said sure, leaving here around 11:55, picked him up in Muncie at 12:25. It's only a 2 hour drive for us, and it left us about 4 hours to ski. It was a lot better than I expected from Ohio. The snow was pretty good, and the runs were decent. (too easy IMO) Definately get your skis and boots if you rent at the shop right off of 33, not at the slope. All in all it was a good day, just enough skiing and a large enough slope to fill that skiing void for a while.

$17 gas $22 rental boots/skis/poles $38 lift ticket+$ 6 dinner from McDonalds--------------------------------------- $83- $ 4 in quarters found in a pile in the snow through some glades... priceless. I mean $79. Not too shabby considering the lift ticket was for all day, so I could have used it much more, and I still have some gas left.

Yeah it's decent. Don't expect mountains by any means though. The glade runs are a little too short, and there's no real steep parts. It's kinda hard to mix things up while you're at it. If you get into jumps, there's quite a few hidden places you can jump from but you have to look for them.
