Hi. My name is Jess *Hi Jess!* and im a former member of the open dump tube community. It was pretty bad. My dump tube wansnt longer than 3 inches. When i hit full boost... It was loud. REAL LOUD. People would stare and mothers would put their hands over their childrens ears. I was in rough shape.

Today, i bought a small engine muffler from advance autoparts for $3.98, and paid $46.00 in labor to get an extension and the welding done. I cant get over how much better it sounds now.

I dont know about you but I think its the sweetest sound. I havent heard one on a 240, but Ive been in some single turbo supras with open dump, and man when that beast hits boost, it seriously sounds like a 747 taking off and its cool because its only loud when your on it, let off and your car is fairly quiet.

Illegal, but sweet. I'm gonna have a y pipe just before the cat that turns into an open header with the flip of a switch.

I love mine...only issue is that it sometimes makes your shirt smell like exhaust if you've had a long night of boosting...but it's well worth it.

Mine has an 18" long flexible tube attached to the flange and it smoothes the sound out nicely...

Yeah, I have gotten pulled over for making the WG open while I was driving past a cop, after he asked me a bunch of questions, I was like, you can clearly hear it isnt my car, as I revved it up for him and there was nothing nearly loud enough for him to know that it was me, although he KNEW it came from my car, but at night and to the untrained eye, youd never know what it was :)

i have a warlock muffler at the end of a complete straight pipe from headers down. when i switch to "straight" on the muffler (has 2 outlets, one can be plugged to muffle, or unplugged to make it straight pipe).... all hell breaks loose... and under bridges it's like F1, and I'm under the ferrari!

just sharing

i remember that one project RB S!4 "lil' GTR" had a huge cool looking dump pipe that extended to behind the driver's side wheel. it looked like a motorcycle exhaust. too bad that car got totalled, what a shame

what is the advantage of having an open dump?doesnt it normally go back into the exhaust on the other side of the turbo from the wastegate?

the dump is referring to the exhaust path of the hot air coming out of the wastegate when it opens. Instead of forcing back into the exhaust stream which causes flow disturbances, you dump it to the ground with a extended pipe which frees up some horsepower. Maybe 5, maybe 10, maybe 30. Just depends for each car.Fmax tested out this theory and gained like 30 whp on running a dump tube on a turbo honda

Damn, I didn't know that is would be a power gain. GTPRO is doing that for me right now, but then again b4 it was just going into the engine bay

Atmospheric vs. Closed-Loop: "An interesting finding is that the Prelude gained an additional 44 HP at 9 psi of boost by simply discharging the wastegate into the atmosphere instead of discharging it back into the downpipe. All other dyno sheets on this site that compare with DRAG are derived with the wastegate discharged into the downpipe and will be tested for possible gains with atmospheric discharge. Atmospheric discharge is not a set-up that would be allowed within the constraints of CARB testing, so closed-loop will be standard in the kit. For those of you who race off-road, know that to make the change from atmospheric to closed-loop is a simple bolt-on/off of existing parts and requires no major modification to produce the additional horsepower. In other words, no more money need be spent just to make more power. An alternative wastegating method is being tested that will be incorporated into the kit to make a racing only set-up easily convertible for track-only use. "this is off of FMAX kits info

does it make a difference if you run a tube compared to open dump?I think that we agreed that dumping it not into the exhaust stream makes power, but what about the tube?I'm guessing that dumping it outside of the engine bay would defintely help lower underhood temperatures....and it improves the sound, or so I'm reading.what else?

would making a separate exhaust for the dump pipe including a cat still give more power? or is the only reason you gain power from it is from freeing up back pressure from the wastegate?

I run an open dump. It's not too bad. The sound is awesome.....I've had ricers just stop and turn around and go back the other way. heh Didn't want to get their lil a$$es beat. The smell is bad though. I always end up smelling like exhaust fumes too. Sucks.... :( You'll have to fix that for me Bri. (WD)

Having an open dump tupe was about the worst sound I've ever heard from my car. Not only was it loud, it just sounded nasty. I had the tube routed back into the exhaust stream. I actually made less power with the open dump tube because I would not floor it. It was too embarrassing.

Now mine isn't that bad. It's loud, but not disgusting or embarrassing.

has anyone made a dump-tube with a resonator in it? i think that would be a pretty cool idea for the people that dont like the sound
