I believe that is Martin Walter's Car.

Why do you ask?

More pictures.

You really do think you know everything dont you? I bet you cant even name the brand of that aux lamp.

How much did I spend on my lights?

That is hard core! I love rally. I miss my Subaru all of a sudden, but it will pass.

[hugs her car] I will never do that to you.

Ugh... I will peg yours at under $100, total.

From the picture the optical clarity doesn't look great, and it appears to be a cheap halogen reflector. Also, size appears to be 5.5"

Hopefully those are Cibie H1s, but probably not. If they were, you'd have about $500 into it.

How do you like that setup? I'm looking for a cost effective setup for a vehicle I recently acquired.

*edit* also, looking at the picture in the OP again, the lights appear to be at least 6.5", maybe even 7". The clarity of the lens and the appearance of the reflector denotes itself as an HID. The shallowness of the reflector appears to be a flood pattern. The two outers and inners appear to be slightly different. Possible two spots and two floods.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly the make. There aren't many sponsors, so they make actually be as cheap as ~$450 each, or as much as $1200 each.

Well, your powers of deduction are decent, your pricing is not. Both sets of lights are made by the same company. The reason mine do not look clear, is because I took that picture in near darkness using an ultra long exposure, hence the fuzziness.

I have Hella 1000FFs New they are about $90 a piece, but I picked mine up used. I like them, and they were cheap. Currently they have 55 watt bulbs, but I have 130 watts to put in them. In the future, I will either upgrade some or all of the lamps, or just retro HIDs into them.

IIRC, the lights on Martins car, are Rallye 4000s. They are a little nicer, and a little higher priced. About $120 a piece for halogen, and $600 a piece for HID. I will likely end up running at least 2 of these in the future. They are kind of the go to lamp for rally.

Even full of fingerprints, mine are pretty clear. Just not big enough.

Very sexy setup!

If you get a chance can you take a beamshot on a long straight road. I'd looking for a light setup on the G2500 Vandura and don't want to waste time :)

I plan on it once I get them aimed properly. I just did a rough aim with the 55s. I will aim them proper once I install the 130s. The centers are pencils, and the outers are driving patterns.

I don't know if I'd put the 130s in the pencils. They should have an extremely hot spot already.

Now those driving lights, they will be very sexy!

I'm having a hard time deciding though. HIDs are tempting for their extreme output vs power consumption, but they're crazy expensive.

Halogens work, but they draw so much power!

I'm considering doing an LED array. That seems to be right in the middle of halogen and HID.

I plan to play around with it. You may be right about the pencils.

I wish I could afford HIDs.

Ive seen LED setups before, but I was not a fan. There was a nasty glare caused by the extreme white, plug it drowned out color. Maybe with the right lense, and a good reflector it could work well. I guess I just plan to stray away until they have spent more time being R&Dd. They do offer some impressive benefits though.

Indeed, I've seen some setups like what you're describing.

I was talking more along the lines of DIY. This allows you to choose your color bin. Kind of like choosing an HID color.

If you get a chance check out the candlepowerforum.

There are so many amazing things that can be done. From an SST-90 you can put out over 2k lumens with ~20w of power! The only problem, and it's a big one, is heat output. These things put out a huge amount of heat. An SST-90 run at 20w would need a heatsink about as large as a performance computer heatsink to keep it cool. This puts a lot of constraints on current designs, but they're being worked on.
