So we were going to start the SR for the first time this weekend. Filled it with oil and started to inspect the wiring mess that we have.

After a minute or two.. I look down and see a huge pool of oil on the floor.. We put the car back up on the lift and find that the upper oil pan is pissing oil all over the place.

I saw a small dent when we had the engine out, but I didn't think it would be problematic. I sure didn't think it was actually cracked and would leak oil out of it. Geez.. what a mess!

This pic is after we drained the oil. Still leaking a bit..

So outside of pulling the engine again and taking it apart to replace the upper oil pan, the only thing I can think of is some JB Weld.

Anyone have any success with this? Any suggestions for or against it?

I will be calling the engine seller today to have a little discussion with them. I will of course be expecting them to send me a new upper pan.. But I'd really like to get this engine running for a while. Then maybe this winter we can pull the engine again and rework it a bit.

Thanks gang.

thanks for the advice guys.

We've got a new upper pan on the way.

I'm just pissed that we have to pull the motor again and then take it apart to replace the damn thing.

you dont have to pull the motor, just use the hoist to support it above the motor mounts, then you can get it off.

Looked to me like we'd have to pull the transmission off first.

Then you have to take off the upper and lower front timing chain covers as well..

Plus with the sway bar and xmember there... looks like a tight squeeze to get that thing out of there.

You sure we can do it without pulling the motor? That would be nice.. wouldn't have to mess with the powersteering, wiring, downpipe, etc...

Pull the motor now, and check for anything else that could go wrong. Plus you can take this opportunity to clean the engine really weel.+1 for clean engines and crossmembers
