in my local car club here in Cali, age range of members ranges from 20 - 44... most are G and Z owners, and they all perform regular maintenance, clean theiur car once per week, etc.. but 99% of them drive the dog $hit out of their cars via im promptu street races, track races, canyon runs, etc.... if you are purposefully driving your car to redline everyday, you are beating down your engine, and eventually your transmission with all the mis-shifts when doing canyon runs, etc... But hey, maybe my car club is an exception, and the majority of G and Z owners out there drive like good little boys, don't take it to the limit, and never red line....
Dr. Rob - did you read what you just wrote - you are in a club with mostly G and Z owners - I would have never thought I would hear you say anyting like that.

On a side note - I remember you saying something like - you got your "Dr.Feelgood" from a movie - are you familiar with the song of the same title by Aretha Franklin. I listen to alot of old music (the music sampled to make new music) and I came across this song - I haven't listened to it yet - but I thought of you. I'll let you know if i can discern if a sample is used from it or if it is worth listenting to.

mann, I would be in an Alti-coupe club in San Diego, but none of the Daygo A'C's represent.... so I just started going to the local meet organized by Andy (bluebatmobile.net) and it just so happens that 70-80% of the guys coming to these meets are G/Z owners... to be honest, many of them have told me that they originally had very little respect for the A/C when it first came out, for various reasons (some didn't know they made a 3.5 version, some thought it was just a cheap knockoff, some just went with what other folks have said about it) but for the most part, after seeing the progression of my A/C (and losing early on in a couple head to head runs), they changed their minds on the A/C's potential... not sure why it surprised you I was in a group with other G owners, I've never said I didn't like the G and Z or their owners, I just think many of them had arrogant egotistical views of the new kid on the block (A/C) when it first came out... the A/C is old news now, no longer the new kid on the block, and for the most part, Z,G,A/C owners recognize that these are three similar/different vehicles with their own flavors...

As for the song...yeah, I definately heard Arethra's song... I like it, good old school jam.... but I definately prefer the ....

Greetings Big Brother Dr. FEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLGood from School days which is where i stole my name from... (and its what all the pledges caled me when I was a prophyte)....

sorry for the continued thread jacking OP...

This thread has been jacked since the consensus said - ADD 2 CYLINDERS.

My comments on this thread represent the approaching 40 year old crew and those who are slowing down to save gas. Of course I punch it on occasions - but never beat it. I am a somewhat reformed NYC driver (which means at any times I can become 10 minuts late and drive like a bat out of hell) . But in general For me my car is primarily a commuter car - allowing me to park my truck. This is why I got an automatic and not the stick. I may play around with another car "racing" on a highway - but I never go hard - not worth it . Most of the folks I know with Gs are more conservative drivers than I am.

I would say that manual transmission sports cars are driven harder (in general) than automatics (although anything can be abused). Although the G and Z are essentially the same car - the two differ greatly in insurance cost. The cost difference is not due soley to the G being a 4 seater (2 seaters being typically higher to insure) but you are much more likely to die in a Z than a G - suggesting that Z drivers push and exceed the limits more often.

There may also be a difference in target and actual demographics between the 2 as well - I think the Infiniti owners think of their cars more as luxury than sport - while the reverse is true for the Z (We definitely know that is Nissans intention) .

You got regional differences since Cali is a more car friendly state - I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that there are more substantially modded (drivetrain- etc) cars in Cali than in any market on the east coast for example.

So for me there are alot of variables that separate one used car, sports car from another. I have a few friends that deal wholesale in cars so I've done alot of "shopping" these cars over the years. There are usually tell tale signs of a car that has been dogged. Some are not so easy to see - but in general with research you can spot good buys.

OP - good luck with your car - just know that if you do consider used - the VQ as evidenced in the G and Z is solid and reliable - do your research and your can eliminate any bad apples - and dont ever buy a used AC, G or Z from any of Dr. Robs "wife" beating friends

But back to the very original question…. I think you'd be upset with yourself for not spending the extra money to get the v6. I'm pretty sure a lightly boosted stock 4 banger would beat the v6 but I can't see it being a blow out. If you're going to go that far by planning to buy a turbo kit and all the things to go along with it, why even spend that kind of money if your goal is to be as fast as a 3.5??? Doesn't make a lot of sense. You're talking about a $35k 4 banger with the turbo kit (would have to modified as there is no actual kit for the car), clutch, and all the nice fixings like leather and nav, $30k cheapest. And now assuming you got it all done, your engine life will be much shorter than a 3.5 would be.
